It was great to see Aleksandar Mitrovic start last night for Newcastle and he looked as keen as ever and in good form too.
Mitro put us ahead after 19 minutes from an inch perfect free kick from Matt Richie was easily headed home by the still very young 22 year-old Serbian International and then in the second half he got his second goal.
Aleksandar Mitrovic scores his first goal
What we didn’t like was when Aleksandar wanted to take the penalty after Matt Ritchie had been taken down in the box, and the argument with Matt didn’t reflect well on Newcastle as the game was beamed live around the world.
It could also have put Matt off but he professionally smashed the ball into the back of the net with that wonderful left foot of his.
And yes they quickly kissed and made up after the penalty.
But Mitro will always be Mitro and he’s a real character and the Geordie fans just love him for what he is – and he’s Newcastle through and through.
We’ve always known Aleksandar has immense talent and potential and you could see that last night as this lad will get better and better under the guidance of the very talented Rafa Benitez.
Long may Rafa be the Newcastle United manager!
Mitro got 65% of the vote and next in line was Matt Ritchie who had another great game for u.
Matt was followed in the voting by Christian Atsu who once again looked a class player.
And next in line was Mo Diame and this was an important game for the Senegal International and he played well.
He scored two good goals and that will do a lot for his confidence which has been on the wane a little bit of late.
But Mo showed last night how he can score those goals for Newcastle.
It was a terrific and very convincing win for Newcastle United last night.

Comment #126Not wanting to be a downer after a fantastic performance but I can’t take any more of this guff. From where I’m sat, Matt Ritchie was head and shoulders the best player on the pitch last night. Mitro is a bit of an idiot with a touch he’ll need to drastically improve to make any impact on the premiership. Clearly, Rafa knows this, which is why he relies on Gayle, Ritchie and to a lesser extent, Perez ahead of Mitro even in the Championship. Can you tell me why you reckon he is ‘Newcastle through and through’ more than several of his team-mates? Taking his shirt off? How would it have been had Ritchie missed the penalty after all that pleading palaver? It is one thing for a striker to be greedy to score but grovelling for the penalty from his team-mate is not what you want to see. He needs to grow up and work on his game. Gayle will start on Saturday on merit.

Best to give the lad credit, voted MOM, even if you or anyone don’t fancy him. He played his heart out, scored, fought till the last minute, man.
On the Ritchie scene nothing wrong with that. CFs want goals. It would have been magnanimous of Ritchie if he had given him the ball.
