Newcastle Hit With Injury Blow To Top Player

Newcastle United’s top scorer Dwight Gayle is likely to miss the important game at Deepdale tomorrow afternoon as he’s said to be a big doubt.

He could make it,  but Rafa may not want to risk such a key player for Newcastle so far this season with Dwight scoring 11 Championship goals.

It seems he has picked up a knock in training, so if he cannot make it  then Aleksandar Mitrovic will likely start up front for the Magpies, especially after his two goals and excellent showing on Tuesday night in the 6-0 win at home to Preston.

Dwight Gayle very doubtful for Preston game

Chancel Mbemba is doubtful so he must have picked up a knock on Tuesday night when he played for the first time in a while.

But the two back-up left backs to Paul Dummett –  new signing Achraf Lazaar and Massadio Haidara – are now fit again and will be pushing Paul for his first team place.

Goalkeeper Rob Elliot is fully fit and pushing for a first team place in the side again.

This is some of what Rafa has said in his press conference today:

“Gayle is a big doubt. We have Diame and Mitrovic scoring goals. It is good for me as people who come in perform even better.”

“I am sure it will be a different game. They will try to amend the result from the other day.”

“We will have to approach the game with the right mentality as always. It will be different teams and in a different competition. They are also at home now.”

“We must enjoy but keep doing the right things.” “We have a little problem with Mbemba and Gayle.”

“Lazaar, Haidara and Elliot are fine. They have trained.”

As expected, Jack Colback is not available for the game tomorrow after he had stitches in his face wound after being viciously elbowed by Alan Browne on Tuesday night – and that earned Browne a straight red card.

If Mitro gets the start tomorrow then it will be a terrific opportunity for him to show he should be starting every week, but he will need to score those goals for us.

A lot of people earned a place in the line up. Atsu, Ritchie, Mitro, to name three. I know Gayle is scoring so can he do the 10?

Maybe bad news for SAFC supporters:-

“Former England boss Sam Allardyce, Nigel Pearson and Paul Lambert are among the candidates being considered by Wolves for the vacant manager’s job.

The Championship club are looking to appoint an experienced, British replacement for Italian Walter Zenga, who was sacked after just 87 days.”

    Two points

Could Cabaye be becoming a bit peed off with his lot under Pardwho? His words seem like a come and get me but as he forced his move away, tough, sty in Landan.

Not everybody will agree with me. But I prefer mitrovic over gayle. Not saying gayle is a bad player. He’s been fantastic as everybody can see.

But I feel when mitrovic plays, his hold up play gets us futher up the pitch, which makes us more attacking. He gets others more involved. Which gayle doesn’t, he’s a better finisher than mitrovic but doesn’t have the same effect on the team.
I also feel when gayle plays we have to defend harder, which has been fine as we have been able to cope so far.

Last thing is, I believe between the two, gayle gets the starting spot over him because of a better & more professional attitude. Which is fair, considering it makes others around them think I can be rewarded for a good attitude. I happy with either man as we are winning games. But I am excited about mitrovic playing tomorrow.

This article and especially comments are an interesting read: http://www.themag.co.uk/2016/10/mike-ashley-calculation-2-directions-newcastle-give-best-financial-return-newcastle-united/

The tide really has turned for some, in regards to Ashley.
One comment even refers to Newcastle fans as “ungrateful” for not recognising what Ashley has done for the club lol.

It’s not just holding it up that gets you further up the pitch. Gayle stretches teams in behind which allows us to advance, it’s what we’ve been missing for years. Cisse tried but he wasn’t quick enough nor intelligent in timing his runs in behind.

A big blow for me. Mitro better step it up and seize his chance.

    EGB,
I’m in the same boat, if we start changing them on snippets of info where does it end, Gouffran had a knock one game and played, could easily be a smokescreen to throw them in to doubt. Sorry pal, once it’s in it’s in.

A point on cabaye. Posted on a few articles ago that cabaye had a dig at ashley, & now he realises what he had at newcastle. But somebody disagreed saying he didn’t join palace or psg because of the mentality.

This is not what I was saying. He joined psg to futher his own career. Footballers don’t think about fans, they think about themselfs. There spoilt wealthy young men. Like celebrities.
He then joined palace to futher his own career. Sitting in the bench at psg was not gonna get him into the france selection, never mind a starting spot. Just look at sissoko for example.
Cabaye was thinking short term when joining palace, but now he maybe looking at the bigger picture over long term. I’m sure he’s sick of the sight of pardew like we all were, & he’d rather be working under rafa.

Would he drop a division?? I don’t think it matters. Because the bigger question is will we need him, the answer is I doubt it.

As I said that’s fair enough and as you said there’s nothing definite about whether he plays or not.

I’ve taken a chance on Yedlin and Atsu anyway so there’s a good chance I’ll get it all wrong anyway!! 🙂

    Shadow,
He was saying goes about the mentality of the owner because as we all well known know there has been a distinct lack of ambition shown. We may well have had players like Remy, Ba and Cabaye stay had we have even shown the slightest ambition, it is no coincidence that we had three relegation battles and half a season of relegation form since making it a stated club policy that we didn’t do ambition.

Shadow as I said earlier, we have better already and not just Shelvey. The team doesn’t need him, CP can keep him and Townsend. I’d love to see them relegated.

I think a lot of us still like the idea of a centre forward with a physical presence who commands the box and scares defences. Judging him on his last performance Mitro has improved his mobility and for me he has always had good technical skills and an eye for goal.

He really wants to succeed and impress sometimes to his detriment but that can be channelled with the right guidance. I really don’t think we have seen anywhere near the best of him yet and although Gayle is an accomplished finisher at this level I really believe that Mitro is out of the mould of a proper NUFC number 9.

Sorry but Cabaye can do what Shelvey can do quicker and for longer

Shelvey might get there but hes got a history of ups and downs mainly related to his attitude we are seeing a lot of good from him atm but hes getting it very easy in the Championship and some of what he is doing wont come of in the top league

Shelvey & Cabaye’s assist & goals stats, compared at a similar age, are very similar. The big difference, is that apart from this season, Shelvey’s goals and assists have came playing against more competitive sides.

I prefer Shelvey myself, and that isn’t a bias statement, as I do not blame Cabaye for leaving. As I recall it, Cabaye was not offered a new deal and his contract was running out… if anything, Cabaye did us a big favour.
