Cheick Tiote has been trying to leave Newcastle now for at least two years and a big move to China broke down last January and his proposed move to Galatasaray in Turkey in late August also broke down at the last moment.
And since the transfer window has now closed in Qatar, Cheick will be with us until at least January when the transfer window opens again.
Rafa Benitez has been happy to have Cheick train with the first team squad, because he gives 100% in training and he will be integrated into the first team squad until January.
Cheick Tiote in action for Newcastle
But whether the midfielder signed from FC Twente six years ago for £3.5M will play again for the Magpies is a good question.
Cheick made a short sub appearance at Villa Park and that’s been his only contribution to the first team this season.
This is what Rafa has said about Cheick’s future:
“He is training very well and I would like to give him a chance before January,”
“His mentality is fine and I’m pleased with him.” “I was considering putting him in the squad for Preston.”
“But that would mean leaving someone else out which would not be fair.”
Since Cheick’s contract runs out next June, Newcastle will probably offer him for transfer at a nominal fee in January and maybe even consider letting him go as a free agent at that time to get his wages off the books?
With Jonjo Shelvey, Isaac Hayden, Jack Colback and others like Mo Diame able to play in central midfield, it doesn’t look like Cheick has much of a future at Newcastle.
