After a tough first half in which goalkeeper Darlow was in good form for Newcastle, we eased to our 7th win in a row this afternoon at Deepdale with a good 2-1 win over Preston North End and with another brace from Aleksandar Mitrovic.
And Mitro only got a start because Dwight Gayle was injured.
Mitro took his chances well to the delight of the Newcastle’s 5200 traveling fans of the total attendance of 20,724 at Deepdale – and they went crazy after both of the Serbian’s second half goals.
Aleksandar Mitrovic fires home first goial after 59 minutes
After a scoreless first half Mitrovic put Newcastle ahead in the 59th minute when he got the ball on the right hand side of the penalty area and put the ball nicely into the back of the net and the Newcastle traveling fans went wild with delight.
And Mitro then scored his second after 71 minutes when his header was initially saved by goalkeeper Chris Maxwell, but the Serbian tapped the ball home for his 4th goal in the last four days – great work by the 22 year-old darling of the Newcastle fans.
But Rafa will not like the fact that we conceded late with Beckford firing home for the Lilywhites to make it 2-1 – and that’s the first goal we have conceded since we beat Brentford 3-1 at home two weeks ago.
Rafa will hold an inquest about that goal when the lads get together tomorrow – what went wrong?
🙂
Newcastle remain top of the Championship table with a good 34 points from our 15 games and a goal difference of +20.
Chris Hughton’s Brighton beat Norwich 5-0 at home today and they remain in second place still 3 points behind Newcastle with an improved goal difference of +14.
Huddersfield lost 5-0 at Fulham in another shock – so the two sides who were above us in the league two weeks ago were both beaten 5-0 today!
If you consider goal difference we are now 6 points ahead of 3rd placed Huddersfield.
Another tremendous win by Newcastle and did we mention Sunderland lost to Arsenal 4-1 at home in the early kick-off game.
I don’t think I did.
They have now equaled the worst start ever in a Premier League season – 2 points from 10 game – and are digging themselves a big hole to get out of this season.

Comment #3Maybe it was good I could not find a stream to watch that game. Not sure if those last 6 minutes would have been worse to watch than it was to listen to. A win is a win, but…Scary!

Comment #5Now I think Mitro is in good form, now who is better Mitro or Gayle, each of them offer something extra, Mitro power and Gayle pace…I think pair them two would be the best option

Comment #6‘ull City beaten – every defeat for them means more chance of them picking a weak cup side to play us next month .

Oh yes three points no matter how they come are always welcome.
Gonna say that you can never say never, I can see Mitro and Gayle, maybe not starting but being on the pitch together, and I am sure the opportunity will present itself at some stage.
Looking forward to the day, two strikers both scoring, mmmmm! maybe I’m in football heaven.

Comment #11Maybe not Gayle, but I prefer Perez with Mitro and Diame with Gayle. Although, would like to see Gayle and Mitro together occassionally.

Comment #12i think against cardiff we can experiment and play both up front , one play either side of goal or gayle playing just behind mitro ,??? worth looking at in training ???

Comment #13Hope Mitroglu can keep scoring. He’s a power house and works his little cotton socks off. Hard not to adore.

If you “consider goal difference” we are 7 points clear of 3rd place!

Only way we will see Gayle and Mitro together is if we are chasing the game in the last 10 minutes imo mate they wont start together Rafa doesnt play 2 up top and I dont think he brought together a big squad to put players out of position
