Luton Town are currently 4th top of League Two with 24 points from their first 15 league games and Newcastle loanee Alex Gilliead has played very well for them so far this season.
Luton Town manager Nathan Jones freely admits he would like to keep the 20 year-old forward at Luton permanently, if he could.
The Newcastle youngster has so far played 10 times for Luton with one goal, but Nathan Jones thinks the Shotley Bridge born player is destined for higher things in his career.
Alex Gilliead in England’s colors
Here’s what the Luton Town manager has told the press about Alex:
“It’s a little bit early but we’d love to have him in our ranks permanently,” “That’s the type of player he is, that’s the type of player we look for.”
“But no, let’s let the boy settle, let him continue his development and I’m sure Newcastle are delighted with how he’s playing and the performances he’s putting in.
“I believe he’s going to be a thoroughbred player.” “I believe he’s going to be a Premier League player.”
“He’s kind of backing up my words.”
Gilliead has played for the England U16. U17, U18 and U20 sides so far – and last season he was on loan at Carlisle United and played 41 games for the Cumbrian club in all competitions with 5 goals and 8 assists.
When he returns to Newcastle in pre-season next summer, Rafa Benitez will assess the youngster and decide if he needs to go out on loan again and if so which division he should be playing in.
Alex is getting good playing time this season at The Hatters and he did the same thing last season at Carlisle and that will be helping a lot in his development as a footballer.

Comment #45Now where was i before I was rudely interrupted oh yes this weekends match, hoping to get a win before the two week break and then hopefully like last week other results going our way again, although I can’t see both Huddersfield and Norwich losing 5-0 again, would be nice though.

Welshie,
You can’t go getting upset on a Newcastle United blog because a shit fourth division club like Swansea who’ve punched well above their weight in the last few years are about to be relegated, welcome to our world. Maybe Barca will tire of Luis Anglaise and he’ll come and rejuvinate you!
Punching above our weight, ha ha ha, what the frig have Newcastle been doing over the last few years should have got relagated about 5 times.
Don’t make laugh, you are a joke.
