This Talented 24 Year-Old To Get Start Against Cardiff

Rafa Benitez has had problems giving games to a number of players in his squad simply because there have so few injuries so far this season.

But it looks like Christian Atsu will get another start against Cardiff at St. James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.

That’s because the very talented Matt Richie picked up his 5th yellow of the season on Saturday at Deepdale and therefore will be suspended for one game.

Christian Atsu likely to get start against Cardiff City

Atsu had an impressive game on Tuesday night against Preston with Matt also starting that game.

With Matt out it’ s another chance for the 24 year-old Ghanaian International to further his claim to become a permanent Newcastle player as soon as January.

Christian is on a season long loan deal with Newcastle having an option to buy him and the 24 year-old has certainly been an impressive player for us so far this season.

He;s fast and skillful on the right wing and he has a lethal left foot.

Such is the strength of the Newcastle squad that Matt will not be missed too much – although the Scottish International has been a standout player for Newcastle since he joined us from Bournemouth in the summer.

With Matt out maybe it’s a chance for Mitro to score from a penalty if we get one on Saturday?

Jonjo Shelvey and local lad Paul Dummett have 4 yellow cards at the moment so another one on Saturday and they will miss the trip to Leeds United on Sunday, November 20th.

That’s an  early kick-off game in our first game following the International break.

That’s going to be a tough game at Elland Road and it’s important they don’t pick up a yellow on Saturday.

Comments welcome.

Nice of us to rest Richie so that he will be fresh for Scotland when they play against England! 🙂

    Good,
I can’t believe the poster who feels for him, he wasn’t forced to go there. He could have stayed here and absolutelr ripped the Championship up under Benitez’s coaching, a year of his life not playing in the PL, when you look at the bigger picture I think he’s goi g to regret that for the rest of his life.

Hope Shelvey gets an England call up just to show him that he screwed up.

    @Jail

Would have loved to have seen Townsend on one wing and Richie on the other that would have been great to watch! Rafa will sign a winger when we get promoted and then we will have the chronicle putting up an interview from Townsend saying he wishes he stayed!

We’ve got Atsu now, so not missing Townsend at all. Though I was disappointed when he chose to leave.

The all to common problem of players like Townsend moving to a situation where they must be near perfect to find consistent play is the reason Lascelles will not want to leave. I do not feel bad for Townsend – he gave us a few good games, but he needs to grow a fair bit as a player to warrant automatic first team play and he could have gotten that here while learning his trade. Lascelles, I believe has greater upside, and regular play under Rafa is his best chance to be an EPL standout in the future.

Strategically, providing he is healthy, Gayle is the cover for Atsu and Gouffron since Aarons is still out. So, Rafa may start with Mitro upfront again, with Gayle on the bench. So all who want them on the pitch together, may get to see that if a sub needs to be made on the wings..

I like Atsu and I hope that we sign him permanently it would then give us Richie and him for our right hand side with the option to play them left as well, we would then need to sign another 2 wingers of their quality for depth as Gouffran and Aarons are not as good as them and will need upgraded when we go back up !

    JackBall,
I think money and London influenced Townsend more than the footballing reasons he claimed made him move, who ever advised him gave him a bum steer I think, He is already fantastically wealthy, how much richer could Palace have made him, he’ll already have a fleet of cars, a seriously flash house, they need to look at the bigger picture.

Guess I don’t have the mentality of todays footballer, but I think I would enjoy those entrapments a bit more when playing, improving and winning.

TransferMarkt only have Gayle valued at £5M and Ross McCormack valued at £8.5M, how does that work.

You can just imagine what Pardew is doing to get Townsend into form – no doubt it will be extra training sessions and trying to bulk him up. Considering Townsend’s bust up with the Tottenham fitness coach Nathan Gardiner, I would say that situation is one ticking time bomb.

I think the ads are a source of revenue for Ed.

If you don’t like them get an ad blocker, that’s what I did.

But a macho geordie football blog is surely the right places for such ads. 🙂

I do find the constant questioning about the ‘what ifs’ Rafa’s (all praise him) methods and systems don’t work in the EPL.

FFS let’s worry about that if (big IF) and when it happens.

Rafa (all praise him) is savvyy enough to adapt when the time comes imo.

This is becoming something of a habit with you. Always bleating about blog bullies, then telling people to man up after you’ve sickened them with your low grade sarcasm.

Hibbitt ….you should laugh it off, as Martoon advises. Unless its one of the bloggers he approves of “getting stick” then he’s bleating for red cards to be shown.
