Shaken Andy Carroll Threatened At Gunpoint By Two Men

The Mail is reporting that former Newcastle striker Andy Carroll was reportedly threatened by a man with a gun while driving home from training in his expensive Mercedes SUV.

Metropolitan Police officers are busy investigating the attempted robbery and security has been increased.

Carroll was said to have been approached at a junction by two men on motor-cycles – one with a gun – but he was able to speed away from the scene and back to the training ground – when police were called.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman had this to say:

“Police were called at around 12.45 on Wednesday, November 2 to reports of two males on motorcycles attempting to rob the driver of a car in Romford Road, Chigwell.”

“The two men threatened the driver and intimated through gesture that they were in possession of a gun. The motorcyclists attempted to block the car as the driver sought to get away.”

“The driver of the car – a man aged in his 20s – was able to manoeuvre away and he called police for assistance. The suspects rode off prior to the arrival of police.”

“The driver of the car was spoken to and an allegation of attempted robbery was recorded. Officers from Redbridge CID are investigating.”

“There has been no arrest at this early stage.”

West Ham have acknowledged the attempted robbery took place and they are tightening security around their training ground.

They issued this statement:

“West Ham United can confirm an incident targeting one of our players on Wednesday 2 November. The matter is now being handled by the police.”

It seems that Carroll drove at speed back to the training ground at Rush Green in Essex hitting several cars on the way as the would-be assailants failed to keep up with Carroll.

Andy was said to be ‘shaken and stunned’ when he reached the training ground and police were called at 12:45 pm yesterday.

Gateshead-born Andy was sold to Liverpool for £35M in January, 2011 and he is currently out of the West Ham side due to injury – injuries have plagued him since he left Tyneside.

Although very shaken by the incident yesterday Andy is said to be OK.

Clearly this story about a player who left NUFC nearly six years ago is of no interest to Newcastle supporters.

    In other news
The rehabilitation of Siem de Jong appears to have stalled.
He wasn’t even on the bench for PSV last night as they lost to Bayern in the CL 1 -2 at home.
