Newcastle are starting to play extremely well this season and not only are we playing well and getting the results, but the team in the last month has become a lot more ruthless and professional in the way we finish off teams.
Getting 3 points on Saturday at Preston was a terrific performance against a team who were near their best form that day, but the lads fought tooth and nail for the win – and we had a little luck at the end of the game.
But that happens when you give 100% in those types of very tough road games.
Rafa Benitez with his compatriot Ayoze Perez
Ayoze Perez has also hit some form and he’s scored 5 goals this season and 3 of those came late last month with a brace against Ipswich and a late goal in the EFL Cup tie at home to Preston.
Perez seems to love working with renowned Spanish manager Rafa Benitez and Rafa vowed when he first came to the club to make the young Spaniard a better player.
And he’s doing that.
Perez was speaking at the successful club’s Foundation Awards dinner on Tuesday night and Ayoze is now a Patron of the Foundation.
This is what the 23 year-old had to say:
“We know we will get our chance to play, which is important, but we have to be ready. It’s a good little fight in between us to be in the team that makes us even better.”
“It’s good competition in a good way and I think that is why we’re doing well and scoring so more goals.”
“Rafa is doing a brilliant job, from the moment he came to the club. He’s changed everything and now things are going much better.”
“Hopefully we can get back to the Premier League and go from there.” “Maybe psychologically, things are much better this year.”
“We’re all ready and focused on the job but the most important thing is we all know what we have to do this season.”
Ayoze has been successfully deployed in the number 10 role this season, but Mo Diame is also in good form at the moment and scored his first two goals for the club recently at home to Preston in the EFL Cup tie.
So it’s a good question whether Ayoze will get a start on Saturday against Cardiff City.
