With Dwight Gayle fit to play tomorrow we are going to say that Rafa will start both Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic together tomorrow against Cardiff City at home.
It may not happen but he has talked in his press conference about the possibility of them playing together and with both in top goal-scoring form – why not give them both a start tomorrow?
Of course Rafa also has Mo Diame and Ayoze Perez, who will be keen to start in that number 10 role tomorrow.
Could these two pals both start tomorrow?
Here’s the side we think (guess) Rafa could start tomorrow:
Darlow
Yedlin Lascelles (c) Clark Dummett
Hayden Shelvey
Atsu Gayle Gouffran
Mitrovic
DeAndre Yedlin is fit and we have in at right back for Anita because of his attacking prowess and it seems we will be trying to break down Cardiff City tomorrow.
Christian Atsu is expected to come in for the suspended Matt Ritchie on the right wing and Frenchman Yoan Gouffran, who is attracting interest from Lille in the upcoming January transfer window will be on the left wing.
We cannot see either Jesus Gamez or Achraf Lazaar starting in either of the two full-back spots tomorrow, but they are both available and were on the bench last Saturday.
They will also have had a full week’s training this week to impress Rafa and they need to get some playing time soon.
What would your team be for tomorrow?
Comments welcome.

Comment #2Jail…I think for many, it’s all just gone too far.
The funny (probably the wrong word) thing about that incident is, I imagine if Betty had thought someone was bad mouthing the fans, as Hibbitt did, he wouldn’t have a single issue with them being branded an idiot. A situation handled badly over what was plain to see was a genuine misunderstanding.
On the ignoring issue, I’m not sure how well that works, or it generally becomes a back slapping exercise. It’s not disagreements that should be discouraged, it’s healthy for debate.

Comment #4Apparently the club is getting £9.8 million back on Thauvin, hopefully that will be going into the kitty for next season.
TheMag on Thauvin:
“The transfer fee will only become payable in summer 2017, with La Provence confirming it to be 11m euros, which at today’s rates is around £9.8m.
The French newspaper also confirm that a larger (12.5m euros after an initial loan) offer was made by Lazio but with Florian Thauvin determined to go to Marseille, the lower figure was accepted to allow him to return to France.”

The blog was it it’s best when there were several posters having healthy and heated debates with each other, it has gone from that though to the arguing being nothing to do with football and it really does trace back to that bob, bill, eric, ted saga when the blog was unusable, just around the same time jeff from benwell started posting under that particular name.

Comment #9hey guys, long term blog lurcher and die hard NUFC fan from India (residing in the US) here…I know that most of the people here are regulars so figured I’ll start off with an introduction since I expect myself be posting on the regular here onwards.
on to the team now…I don’t think it’d be wise to start with Atsu and Gouffran on the wings if we’re playing both mitro and gayle (which i agree we should)…both atsu and gouffran are more of the goal-scoring forward types than the providing kind. Both gayle and mitro need to be supplied with, for them to perform their best…problem is I can’t think of anyone other than ritchie in our lineup who could do that consistently for us…diame and perez are also of the same mould…

I used to post on this blog a couple of years ago, almost daily. Always enjoyed the debates. But yes, you’re absolutely right, it’s been filled with a load of tripe that’s moved away from talking about football and turned into people arguing with eachother page after page.
I still keep up with the blogs and follow comments but it got too tiresome for me.
Anyway – hope everyone is well and is enjoying the season. I don’t have a season ticket anymore but have been to about 6 games so far and I’m really enjoying life under rafa.
Take care, Carrying

Comment #11Jail…I don’t think it’s that simple, sadly. I imagine it’s different reasons for each of us, but whilst the WUM issue certainly challenged the blog, more often than not it was united against them.
I think what we’re left with is a bunch of people, who on the main part, don’t like each other and have no time for their opinions.
It is an angry place, and that isn’t the work of one or two, it was born from a lack of care to try and understand other perspectives, across the board, also, very few disagreements have been put to bed, so it’s hard for people to move on.
Jeff certainly was an unpleasant character though.

It’s a tough one, having been involved in those rolling spats, I understand where they come from. I also get how it must be tiring for others to read.
Are you still writing? If so, post a link if you can – Always remember you were a good read.
Jinx…Welcome. Out of interest, why start posting now after being a long term lurcher (Not to be mistaken as “you’re not welcome here”)?
I personally don’t think the Gayle / Mitro partnership is on the cards anytime soon. Why would Rafa rule it out, even if it isn’t in his plans?

Thanks a lot. I was blogging to try and gain some experience/ portfolio to be honest with you. So I was doing the blog and writing for The Mag. I work professionally as an editor now (Business news but some business in sport!) so I rarely have the patience to blog anymore unfortunately!
Good to see The Toon on the up again, it’s been so refreshing so far. I just hope we – or rather Ashley – don’t push the self destruct button.

Comment #17Looking at that line up I can’t help but think that we’re missing a real top quality attacking left winger.
Someone with a bucket load of pace and a deadly cross…
Even if Goofy doesn’t leave in January he is not good enough in that role for the PL IMO.
This must be a priority for Jan?

On NUFC, it is refreshing to see the change in how the club is acting. I am cynical towards Ashley and am waiting to see what happens when push comes to shove, but am definitely behind Rafa. What a breath of fresh air he is.

I think you are right. A PL quality left winger should be on the shopping list in Jan or certainly in summer window (after our promotion!). Aaron’s still has to grow, not to mention find a way to stay healthy, and so still in a backup slot. It might also be interesting to see how Lazaar does on the wing, though not generally a fan of players playing out of their chosen position.

thank you 🙂
I stumbled upon the blog sometime last year but I really didn’t start reading the comments section until sometime early this year (was only following the posts be Ed). As I started reading the comments, I realized that many of the visitors here are regulars and I also enjoyed the discussions in the comments section just as much as the posts themselves (save for a few unsavory ones) and wanted to start contributing as well. But, as silly as it may seem, the reason I didn’t join was because I was having trouble creating an account (don’t remember what exactly, but I know that i made two attempts and couldnt create an account/reset password).
As to why now, well, as a toon fan it’s rather hard finding another one outside of UK. Most people are surprised when I mention that I’m a Newcastle supporter, both here in the US and in India (although there is a sizable fan base in India, they’re all scattered).
Naturally, this blog, with its NUFC fan base is one of the few places where I can have a conversation about my club with a fellow fan so honesty, this is something I should have done a long while back, Nonetheless, I’m here now and here to stay :).

Comment #26So it looks like we are going to recoup most of our money from Thauvin!
Would love us to sign Atsu and another left winger someone like Knockhaert or Brady would be good they are of a similar level to Richie in terms of end product and work rate although it would not surprise me if Rafa was looking to try get Insigne when we get promoted!

Sorry to appear thick but what do those figures Comment 3 tell us.
Am out all day tomorrow so Rafa (all hail him) bingo as follows.
Darlow
Yedlin Clarke Lascelles Dummett
Hayden Shelvey
Atzu Diame Perez
Mitrovic
The back four seems to evolved from a certain pick that included Anita but Yedlin is now flavour of the month.
Goofy also isn’t the certain starter anymore which is why I’ve gone for Perez, although I am probably wrong as Perez doesn’t play too well as a winger.

Comment #32There seems to be a lot of newby bloggers plus the reappearance of some old regulars, so despite all of the negativity it appears to be reasonably healthy.
Hibbit if you are reading the blog still, we have another super moon on 14th November, it will be at it’s closest than it has been for many years. So if we have a clear sky it will be huge.

He’s on loan to Young Boys of Berne – Switzerland until June 2017.

Comment #36So then here’s my “cheat” attempt at the Rafa bingo lineup.
Darlow
Yedlin—–Lascelles—–Clark—–Dummet
Shelvey—–Hayden
Atsu—–Diame—–Gouffran
Mitrovic
I’m going with Mitro simply because Gayle is just coming back from injury, he didn’t score in his last match before the injury and Mitro scored a brace in each of his last two games and could have had a hatrick in both too.
Jail just get me another 5 points ready will ya!
