Rafa Benitez Gives Positive Injury Update – Striker Fit

Rafa has given a rather positive injury update during his press conference this afternoon which has just finished.

It looks like Dwight Gayle is now fully fit and available for tomorrow’s game and (almost forgotten winger) winger Rolando Aarons is getting close to full fitness.

Daryl Murphy is getting close, but he is still not available for selection and DeAndre Yedlin has recovered from his slight injury at Preston and is available.

Dwight Gayle – fit for tomorrow

Here are some of Rafa’s comments today about the fitness of various players:

“Gayle is fit. I am really pleased to have 2 players scoring goals. The competition is really good for the team and us.”

“Dwight Gayle and DeAndre Yedlin have both trained.”

“No new injuries. Aarons is getting close. Murphy is much better but not yet. Rest of players are fine and Elliot almost back.“

“I won’t say when they may play together but both are good players who can score goals.”

“Mitrovic is a worker. Gayle is the same. As a manager you have to be really pleased with 2 strikers scoring goals.”

We suppose there’s a chance both Mitro and Gayle could play tomorrow – maybe with Dwight as the number 10 withdrawn striker behind the big Serbian striker.

That would be good.

Good to see that Rob Elliot is making progress.

What do you think?

So then the EFL Cup has a new sponsor for the next three years. and will be known as the Carabao Cup from the start of next season.

Carabao is a Thai company that makes energy drinks.

If Rafa sticks to his tried and tested plan of playing only one striker then I think it should be Mitrovich.
When Gayle was knocking in the goals Mitro had to wait for his chance. Since he lost his place through injury Mitro has really done the business and deserves to stay until he plays badly or stops scoring.
This scenario keeps everyone on their toes.
Hope Atsu is back in tomorrow in place of Ritchie and would like to see Lazaar have a run out too in Dummett’s position.
    Onwards and upwards lads.
