Daryl Horgan plays for Dundalk in the League of Ireland Premier Division and he has impressed during Dundalk’s Europa League run and it seems that Newcastle’s Rafa Benitez is keen on signing the player.
The Mail is reporting that Rafa Benitez has had Newcastle scouts watch the 24 year-old winger and it seems they have been impressed with what they have seen.
Horgan’s contract with Dundalk runs out in early December so it looks like he could be acquired in a very good deal for Newcastle.
Daryl Horgan – 24 year-old winger
The PFAI Player of the Year has been included in the Republic of Ireland provisional squad for next week’s World Cup qualifier against Austria, although he is yet to represent Ireland at the senior level having played only once for the Ireland U-21 side.
Newcastle scouts were watching the 5ft 7ins winger play against Zenit St Petersburg last month when Horgan scored a superb goal in Russia.
Manchester City are also said to be watching the player and they want to sign him for Melbourne City, which is their sister club and play in the A-League in Australia.
Horgan started his career with Salthill Devon back in 2010 and moved to Sligo Rovers the next year before going on loan to Cork City.
He joined Cork on a permanent basis in 2012 and stayed for a couple of years before joining Dundalk in December of 2014 on a two year deal.
He appeared in all six of Dundalk’s UEFA Champions League qualifying games in 2016 as they became the first ever Irish side to reach the play-off round.
Horgan is considered the best player in Ireland at the moment, although he would still be a surprise signing for Newcastle, but it appears that Rafa Benitez is very keen on the player.
