Top Italian Club Target Newcastle Striker For January

There’s a report in Tutto Napoli in Italy today that Napoli are interested in Newcastle’s 22 year-old Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic and could attempt to sign him in the January transfer window.

Mitro has come right into form the last couple of games and has looked the consummate center-forward for Newcastle scoring four goals against Preston North End and he was close to scoring with other attempts on goal in those two games.

Aleksandar Mitrovic waves to Newcastle fans

Rafa Benitez’ former club are looking for a goalscorer to add to their team following the departure of Gonzalo Higuain to rivals Juventus in the summer for a massive fee of €90M (£80M) and Mitrovic is said to be one of their targets.

At least Napoli have got some big money to spend, but it would be a long shot at best for them to persuade Newcastle to part with one of their most popular players on Tyneside.

Mitro can also become a top center-forward under the guidance of Rafa Benitez so we don’t think the 22 year-old 24 times capped Serbian International will be going anywhere in January.

Mitrovic was signed by Newcastle from Belgium club Anderlecht in the summer of last year for around £13M and he has played 45 times for the Magpies with 14 goals since then.

Mitrovic will now cost a lot more than that after 18 months at Newcastle and he can become a much better striker under Magpies manager Rafa Benitez.

What do you think?

Will Hughes is playing very good. Few passes from him were like jonjo Shelvey.
We need to sign him ASAP.

    Mitro

    Mmmm

Uproot my partner and baby to a Serie A club where I have to start from scratch and work under Maurizio Sarri (who?).

Stay in a city where I’m already loved , be in the PL next season and work under San Rafael.

Gimme a nanosecond to think about it !

Nice to see struggling pre season favourites finally getting it together in time to take points off each other, like Villa and Derby. Makes our job all the easier. 🙂

Derby demonstrate the benefits of near post corners, look likely to score each time. We have moved off “bang it long to Williamson” but could still do better.
Then they hit a long one! And he gets a head on it because it was unanticipated and Wolves were all pulled to the near post.
Nothing like a bit of variety.
    Derby look good for 5-0

Reading in the sports pages today that Mourinho is planning to offload several under performers at Man.U. in Jan.
Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, De Paye all mentioned.
Reckon Rafa could coax a season or two from the first couple of these.
He’s twice the man manager that Mourinho is and these two are proven class, were we to make it back to the premiership.

Rafa has made his peace with Perez at Madrid.

Zidane could do with some of his young South American stars having a season or two in the PL.

Now let me think which club will be in the PL with a Spanish speaking coaching team and an elite manager I know and trust.

Could see this you know! Napoli love a crazy personality, Mitrovic style would suit Serie A, not to mention theres alot of reports that say we’ve got insigne on our radar!
Not sure mitrovic is really Benitez cup of tea and id bet Gayle is first choice when fully fit for Leeds! Mitro is all fun and games now but hes taken his chance and if hes dropped i can see him getting aggitated!

We should hold Mitro for sure, he is showing his massive potential. Why sell good young players like Mitro, Mbemba, Shelvey, Lascelles. They are our future for next 5-10 years. We should go for Schneiderlin I think, do not know if we can afford his wages but he can be brilliant player for us. Depay also has great potential but if he has a morale atributes to play for Rafa I do not know. Better try to sign Knockaert and that irish winger…

hoping Madison’s got some inside info with his entry, as I think I’ve gone for the same.
Agree with Jay, I think it’s gonna be tough keeping Mitro happy, if he’s always second fiddle and dropped after good performances. Seems he’s the plan b striker; coming on late when we need a goal. Hope I’m completely wrong though.

    Chancel

Seems a good XI to me 🙂

I think Rafa may need to move to playing both Gayle and Mitro sometimes to keep them both happy. Gayle is the one who would do better as the Plan B striker (more mature, less emotional) but is currently in the Plan A role. Will just have to wait and see, I suppose. Can’t see Mitro leaving in January or in the summer if we are promoted unless Rafa tells him he won’t have a shot at the starting spot or we bring in a clear first-choice forward.

Rafa did mention in his press conference that he could put Yedlin up on the right wing which I’d like to see, but that would put Anita in at RB and maybe switch Atsu over to the left for Gouffran or come off the bench. Any of those scenarios could happen. Looking forward to finding out what it is going to be today.

Oh yes, McLaren signed on with his eyes open but I’m not convinced he was fully aware of the constraints he was expected to work under. That, by the way, is not a defense of his coaching or tactics.

Best of luck to him at Derby and maybe he’ll agree to letting Hughes join us.
