He’s The Perfect Player For Rafa To Work On And Improve

It’s been pointed out just how strong the Newcastle squad is when we can leave Dwight Gayle,  our top goalscorer and the suspended Matt Ritchie,  probably our best player this season – out of the side and the team doesn’t seem to be weakened.

That’s because we had Aleksandar Mitrovic and Christian Atsu in place of them and those two players played really well and are easily leading our Man of the Match poll.

It was probably symbolic that Mitro set up Atsu for the first goal after just three minutes, when the 22 year-old Serbian unselfishly laid the ball off to the Ghanaian who fired home in great style.

Rafa Benitez congratulates Christian Atsu after goal yesterday

Christian is really enjoying his time on loan at Newcastle and he seems to love being coached by Rafa Benitez and playing in a side that has legendary support from the fans

Christian looked very good in that first half yesterday but he has a lot of room to improve too.

But he used his tremendous pace down the right wing and the Walesonline report of the game pointed out the Cardiff players couldn’t live with Atsu for parts of the game yesterday.

He almost scored his second goal just after half-time when his effort was deflected over the bar.

And by his own admission Arsu misses too many chances and he doesn’t always do things like track back and his final ball is not all it could be.

Matt Ritchie is excellent at tracking back and it’s something Christian will improve on as gets more playing time at Newcastle.

But there’s no doubt Atsu has natural speed and natural ability and he seems to be a perfect player for Rafa to  bring out those qualities by his coaching and vastly improve the 24 year-old.

That’s especially true when Christian has said he wants to improve in almost all areas at Newcastle.

Rafa will have a chance to buy Christian in January and make the move permanent and we think he will want to do that.

Otherwise Newcastle may have to fight maybe Premier League clubs in the summer for his signature if Christian continues to improve under Benitez.

He is almost the perfect player for Rafa to coach, because of his natural ability and his tremendous speed – coupled with his ambitions to be come a much better player.

We should sign this lad as soon as possible.

It s starting to look like Jail was right about Mbemba being moved on.
It’s a shame as he is very quick and good on the ball but maybe not as solid defensively as Rafa would like.

When Chancel scored that own goal against Wolves – if Rafa had a gun he would have shot him !

Be interesting to see what % of the MOM votes are from people who actually watched the game.

I would suspect that more voted more Dummett who were at the game than who voted for Mitro that weren’t.

    I wasn’t so didn’t vote.

mbemba’s asset is pace but unlike the great johnathon woodgate, who some people strangely compare him to, mbemba doesn’t strike me as a natural footballer in the woodgate mould. woodgate was sublime on the ball.

Lascelles and Clark had around 20% of the ball between them yesterday. Considering that Cardiff only had 33% of the ball throughout their entire team, that is quite a damning statistic. If Benitez wants to play out from the back, you see how Mbemba isn’t getting into the side.

I would say Mbemba’s days are numbered – with possibly a taller/ball playing CB brought in.

Wws…….. Because he seems to prefer Clarke and Lascelles. He’s left Mbemba out for a while now.

The problem with CB’s like Chancel is that one mistake or lack of concentration that gives a goal away undoes all the nice things that they do with the ball. Look at Stones as an example.

Hes left Hanley out more often than Mbemba (in fact when Mbemba was injured Rafa prefered no CB on the bench than Hanley). Clark and Lascelles are settled atm but if one drops off no reason to think Mbemba doesnt slot back in, barring the Wolves game (where imo had Darlow been there we’d of drawn) he has been good this season. He also started in the cup not long ago and still looked like he hadnt missed a beat

Its a squad game now under Rafa and one looking towards the PL where Mbemba looked good and Clark struggled. Time will tell obviously but imo Rafa would be daft to let Mbemba go

I’l rephrase part of that comment as it didn’t come out right originally. 🙂

I would suspect that more voted for Dummett who were at the game than who voted for Mitro that weren’t.

My thinking on Mbemba is it’s a case of hourses for courses. Sure I read somewhere after Mbemba had been left out Rafa said it was due to wanting a more physical presence. Is that a forever thing, or more Championship based given the physical nature of the league?

If Mbemba wasn’t a Rafa type, long term, you’d have thought he’d be one to go last summer.

Watford have a decent team, I wasn’t surprised at them doing ok when they were promoted and currently are.

They have a midfield player Guedeira (?) who I really rate but never seems to get a start.

Like to see him sign for us.

Haha ah right I thought thats what u meant but wasnt sure

Why do u think that though? I mean Mitro gets votes because hes Mitro I agree with that but why Dummett? From what I heard it was Atsu who had a more eye catching game

    2 goal

The funny aspect of that is that we lost or drew games that we should have won.

This season we are winning games we could just as easily lost or drawn.

I know that Mbemba has also played as dm for his country. However, with Hayden and Colback he won’t much luck there, either. Nevertheless, with squad rotation and a serious attempt at cup runs, I think Mbemba and Hanley will get a share of games.

But deffo Jamal and Clark for me (and the majority).

Anyone see the post-match interview with Warnock? He is also not overly enamored with sideboards…or any side hair for that matter. He’s a ringer for Calibos from Clash of the Titans 🙂

On the Dummett debate, ok he is’t the most exciting fullback we have ever had, not an Enrique or Bernard, but….

Closest parallel is Simpson. Some say Dummett won’t be there if we get back into Europe. Well Simpson is, and in a side unbeaten in the group stage……

He is starting to look more comfortable on the ball and less vulnerable to a press. And he has got around the back of the opposition defence several times recently. Either passed in, like yesterday, which shows a better understanding with his colleagues, or he simply uses his pace to push and run. Didn’t he get an assist that way a couple of games back?

Lastly he is quick, something I value in a defender having watched the likes of Collicini get left for dead…..
