This Defender Disappointed With Newcastle

23 year-old American DeAndre Yedlin was not too happy at the end of the game on Saturday, as we almost gave 2 points away by allowing Cardiff to come back into the game after it looked we were cruising to victory in that first half and were 2-0 up.

But it didn’t happen that way and after Cardiff had pulled one back after 73 minutes the rest of the game was spent trying to see the game out and getting all 3 points.

It could and should have been a lot easier and Newcastle are still not controlling some  games as well as they might do – it’s an area we can improve as the season progresses.

This is what DeAndre said after the game on Saturday:

“We have to keep going. These type of wins like Preston and Cardiff feel like losses now because we know we should not let it get to the point it got to.”

“That’s a good thing. We’re upset about wins now too if we don’t think we did everything right.”

“We’ll take a narrow win, but we want to control games a lot better.”

“There will be games when you win 1-0 but you control things.” “Against Cardiff we could have controlled it better and made things easier on ourselves.”

“That’s how it goes sometimes but the most important thing is getting three points.”

Those are really good points from the American.

Yedlin has started the last three games and he is now off to America for the two World Cup qualifying games against Mexico and Costa Rica.

The former Sunderland loan player is quickly improving under Rafa Benitez and is looking like another great buy for only £5M from Tottenham.

The Italian press is full of the Mitrovic transfer story.

All accounts have one thing in common.

They ackowledge that the rumours originated not with Napoli but with the Daily Mirror (which of course under Rafa doesn’t get special treatment any more)

They also find it strange that the price quoted is what we paid Anderlecht.

Napoli signed Polish striker Arkadiusz Milik in summer for €35 million to replace Gonzalo Higuain but he has an ACL injury so they need a replacement urgently.

I guess a loan to knock the rough edges off big Al in SerieA may be conceivable.
