Benitez Likely To Sign This Talented Striker In January

Newcastle were reported to be interested in signing 22 year-old Utrecht striker Sebastien Haller in the summer and the player made it clear he is very keen to play in the Premier League.

Tottenham were heavily linked with him earlier this year and in August L’Equipe reported that both Newcastle and Sporting Lisbon were interested in signing the 22 year-old.

But Sporting eventually signed Dutch striker Bas Dost from Wolfsburg, who was also reported to be a Benitez target.

Sebastien Haller – 22 year-old Utrecht striker

One reason it seemed difficult to attract the French striker to Newcastle in the summer was he wasn’t too keen to play in the English second division.

But if Newcastle are still top of the Championship in January we will stand a much better chance of getting the young striker in and he would cost less than £10M.

Haller stands 6ft 2ins and he’s played for all of the French Youth sides including 18 appearances for the U-21 side with 10 goals.

This season he has banged in 6 goals and got 4 assists in 14 total appearances for Utrecht.

He joined Utrecht last summer from Auxerre and scored 24 goals in 40 appearances last season, but he was also on loan for half a season at Utrecht before that – so in 73 total appearances he has scored 41 goals and 15 assists for his Dutch club.

If he was brought in during January he could help with Newcastle’s promotion drive, but more importantly be a player who can help us in the Premier League in future years.

Everton, Ajax, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Monchengladbach and Schalke 04 have all shown interest in the player this year.

Rafa was also reported in the summer to have called the player personally to persuade him to sign for the club.

Haller could well be a striker high on Rafa’s list for January and he would be an excellent signing for us.

What do you think?

I could score 6 goals in 14 games in that p poor league .. there’s a reason none of the big clubs have gone in … same as the De-Jong brothers – not good enough

He’s probably no better than Murphy anyway.
