Jamaal Lascelles has developed a lot since he started working under Rafa Benitez in March.
Once Rafa arrived he quickly saw the potential in Jamaal and had him in the first team after Steve McClaren had basically ignored the 22 year-old center-back all season long.
Rafa even rather surprisingly gave the 22 year-old the Newcastle captaincy in the summer and he has done a good job this season as both captain and player.
This lad could be headed for big things in the future and he still has some ways to go yet to be the finished article, but is keen to develop his game as much as possible and has a great attitude and very good leadership qualities.

After 2-0 win at Derby County
Rafa has been asked today about Chelsea being interested in buying Jamaal in January, with the news last week they are willing to cough up £18M to get their man.
This is how Rafa responded to that speculation.
“To be fair I was talking with Jamaal this week because I read a lot of things in the press.”
“He is quite happy and training well.” “He is concentrating on playing football and that’s it.”
There is simply no way that Rafa Benitez will allow Jamaal to leave the club anytime soon.
The former Nottingham Forest defender is one of the key young players in Rafa’s plans to make Newcastle United great again.
It’s also interesting to see how the transfer values of our younger players will start increasing as Rafa makes them into better players – Jamaal is only one example – we paid around £4M for him from Nottingham Forest in 2014.
We expect Jamaal Lascelles to keep improving this season and he will become a much better player by next season when hopefully we are back in the Premier League.
