Striker On Why Newcastle Are Winning

Ayoze Perez had shown some decent form this season and he now has 6 goals  in 15 appearances and Aleksandar Mitrovic is coming into some great form and now has 5 goals in 1-0 appearances for the Magpies.

Perez was interviewed a couple of days ago and he said he likes playing with Mitrovic and he says they make a good couple on the pitch – they work well together.

Ayoze now has 19 goals in 90 appearances for the Magpies since he joined us from Tenerife in the summer of 2014.

Perez and Mitrovic even played well last year against Chelsea

This is what the 23 year-old twice capped Spanish U-21 International said:

“We are performing really well on the pitch and we have to keep going.” “We are up at the top, but still we are not there yet.”

“Mitro and I feel really, really good with each other.”  “We make a good couple and we always try to find each other.”

“Against Cardiff we linked up well for the first goal and we are learning from each other and making each other better.”

“We are winning games together too, which is good.”

In Newcastle’s 2-1 victory over Cardiff City last weekend, Perez played as the number 10 withdrawn striker behind Mitro up front – and surprisingly that was only the second time they have started a game together this season.

There is certainly a great camaraderie amongst the players this season and that optimism in the dressing room has extended out to the fans in the City as everything has been turned on it’s head from last season.

Under Steve McClaren everything was doom and gloom.

But when a  massive club like Newcastle finally gets some ambition and goes all out to keep a top man like Rafa Benitez at the club, then good things start to happen.

Getting Rafa at Newcastle is the best thing owner Mike Ashley has done in over 9 years at the club.

All Mike has to do now to become a really successful club owner is to stay out of the way and let Rafa do everything – he knows exactly where’s he’s going and how to get there.

These are good times at Newcastle United.

It’s important to recognise which players best compliment each other, and Perez and Mitro do play well together. Better than Gayle and Diame, as far as I can tell, which admittedly is hard to judge when you are limited to radio commentary, match reports and highlights. Gayle may well be our best performed attacker, but I think Mitro and Perez our most potent attacking combination.

    Haidarra/ Dummett

……for example, with the addition of a top AM, CF, LW, deep lying playmaker, CB, and of course united and well managed by Rafa, and we are back with a vengeance, and we will have the funds to do it.

It’s been one of my bones of contention with Benitez that he has put no emphasis on trying to establish Mitrovic and Perez as a striking partnership, last season and this one. Clearly two of our genuinely talented younger players who could be successful at a high level in the PL but it doesn’t seem to suit his agenda. Maybe they don’t lick his boots sufficiently, or maybe their style of play is a little too complex for his basic hoofball mentality.

The overrated Frenchman ( predictive text again – LOL)

    Boot-licking must work
It’s made Gayle top scorer in the League with 11 goals.

That horrible basic hoofball has us 3 points clear at the top of the table with +21 goals !
