The news this morning is that Rafa Benitez has been named the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month for October and that’s another award Rafa can add to the many he has received in football including three European trophies – A Champions League win and two Europa League wins in his long and distinguished career.
Newcastle got five wins in five games in October, scored 11 goals and conceded only 2 and Rafa was a red-hot favorite to win the award for the first time – and he did.
Rafa Benitez – Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month for October
60 year-old Scot George Burley is the Chairman of the Sky Bet Manager of the Month panel of judges and he had this to say:
“Newcastle United were strong favourites for promotion before the season started and their 100% record in October has taken them to the top of the Championship.”
“Rafa has built a squad which is now looking very formidable and has all the qualities required to regain their place in the Premier League.”
Sky Sports’ EFL pundit Don Goodman, the former Sunderland striker said this:
“Rafa’s Newcastle team were unstoppable in October, bulldozing every team that was unfortunate enough to have to take them on!”
“Eleven goals for and just two against tells the story of arguably the only team in this season’s Championship capable of pulling away from the rest.”
And finally this is what the famous Newcastle manager said about his latest award:
“I’m really pleased. As a manager when you win a trophy it means that your staff, your players, the people who work in the club, they are working very hard.”
“So I think they also deserve this award and it’s important for everyone here.”
There seems to be some negative reaction from fans of other clubs to Rafa winning the award – why we have no idea – but criticism always comes when you become successful – so we need to get used to it.
Hopefully, we are on our way to even more success and a lot more criticism.
Great!
