Fans Love You When We Win – Don’t LIke You When We Lose

Achraf Lazaar has been interviewed in the Chronicle today and he has reflected on his time with Palermo and talked about how excited he is to join such a famous club as Newcastle United.

And he has talked about how good the Palermo fans – the ultras – were to him during his three year stay in Sicily and that they thanked him when he left in the summer for all he had done for the club.

But the fans at Palermo are also demanding not unlike the fans at Newcastle and therefore he thinks he has been prepared for life at Newcastle and certainly the fans have welcomed the Moroccan with open arms to Newcastle.

This is what Achraf has said today about the Palermo fans:

“Palermo have a big fan base and they are very much behind the team too. If you don’t win the fans don’t like you, if you win they love you.”

“The fans come to the training ground everyday. They stay near the team. As I say when you win you are a prince of the city, if you lose it’s hard.”

“Winning in the city is very important to the fans.”

“They have the Ultras in Palermo. They thanked me for everything I had done for the club before I came to Newcastle and I thanked them for all their support.”

“The fans were brilliant with me and supported me for three years.”

Achraf seems like a really good guy and he will find out soon enough – if he doesn’t know already – that if you give 100% at Newcastle and lose then all is well – as long as you give everything in a game the fans will stick by you.

It’s when players give up and don’t seem to care when wearing the famous Newcastle shirt that really upsets the fans.

And that happened too many times last season and the Geordie fans were unhappy – very unhappy.

But Rafa has been able to get through to them that every game is important and 100% effort is there all the time – and if a player is not willing to give that in games and in training – he doesn’t play for Rafa Benitez.

Everything is cool at Newcastle at the moment and long may that continue.

Gerrard – no thanks, too slow for the premier League now and anyway Terry Mac isn’t here to keep him company.

Broon back in Toon – makes commercial sense. Fans will but new shirts in droves if the design is right. More importantly in a Global market its about “reaching the parts other sponsors can’t reach ” In other words the USA and Far East. Newcy enjoys a following in the USA and even appears on the Big Bang Theory on TV due to product placement.
Certainly no tears to be shed on the demise of Wonga – perhaps they will move down the road to the Mackems as they will need a lend of something to improve the mess they’re in !

@4, yeah, quite a few of the old faces (Baro, Sgt Heggarty etc) who used to be regulars seem to have disappeared these days.
