Odds Shorten Considerably On Newcastle Signing Steven Gerrard

The LA Galaxy’s MLS play-off defeat last week has left the future of former England and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard uncertain, but it’s not expected the midfielder will be staying on at the Galaxy.

They lost 1-0 to the Colorado Rapids and since then Steven has posted an Instagram shot of himself with the LA lights in the background and the caption was

“Special place, incredible view, I will miss you LA.”

That kind of suggests he’s not going to be staying around.

Steven is now 36 years old and has been in the US for the last 18 months and now the speculation over his future and who he may play for – if anybody – is rife.

And just like a few years back when David Beckham’s future was uncertain, there was also talk about the former LA Galaxy star possibly joining Newcastle – although it seemed a pipe dream.

The Galaxy would like Gerrard to stay on in LA for another season, but it seems that’s unlikely to happen and that may even be it for the player – who could be retiring.

SkyBet have put Celtic and Newcastle in the lead in the betting – probably because former Liverpool managers Rafa Benitez is at Newcastle and Brendan Rodgers is at Celtic.

Newcastle were 22/1 yesterday but the odds have shortened considerably to 5/1 – so maybe Rafa wants him at Newcastle?

On SkyBet here’s the latest betting on who will sign him before next September.

Celtic 4/1
Newcastle 5/1
Liverpool 12/1
Any Chinese club 16/1
PSG 16/1

It seems the betting is that Steven will join a manager he has worked with before – and he has always said that Rafa Benitez is the best manager he ever played for.

Gerrard made 38 appearances for Galaxy with  five goals and 15 assists.

    “odds Shorten”?

Are we actually taking this seriously?

Surely we are not going to become an Old People’s Home for aging has been stars?
Thought those days of purchases (Barnes, Rush, Pearce etc.) were over.

I recall Gerrard complaining about how Benitez treated him.

I recall him saying Benitez never ever praised him.

Never seen him say Benitez was the best manager.

He would be looking for a high salary and I don’t see us
    matching his expectations.
Plus – is he really Premier League standard these days?

I’m an LA Galaxy supporter and absolutely no one wants him here for another year. No one. Not a single fan. Even the Liverpool fans who support the Galaxy admit he’s been awful and needs to go.

    No one.

So – looks like it’s his agent trying to publicise his
    likely availability.
