As our players begin to return this week from the last International break for some time, Rafa Benitez will be preparing the lads for the very tough game at Elland Road this Sunday.
He will have that extra day to prepare the team in what could be our biggest test of the season so far, against an in-form Leeds United team who are starting to come good under impressive new manager Garry Monk.
Garry Monk – Leeds United manager
Let us know how you think this game will end up in front of a sold-out Elland Road.

“We’re going to have to look collectively real hard in the mirror at ourselves and understand it’s not been a good start,” said USA captain Michael Bradley.
“At moments like this it does you no good to point fingers and to be looking around trying to figure out who you can throw under the bus.”

Comment #2With Shelvey requesting a personal hearing and the F.A. preoccupied with selecting a new England manager there is a good chance Jonjo will be available for the Leeds match.

“We understand Shelvey will ask for a personal hearing. This would mean that he would be available for Leeds while an independent panel is convened, probably to look at the charge next week and take evidence.”
And:-
“Several of his team-mates confirmed they’d heard something though we understand in evidence there was not an agreement on exactly the term used.”

Comment #5i don,t know why people think this is biggest test of season, they lie 6th and its their highest position for 3 years i,m lead to believe, we should have too much for them if we are on our game, i,d love to see mitro get another one

You think the F.A might’ve preempted this move and maybe already have the panel lined up to look at it this week to make sure he doesn’t play this weekend? Just a thought.

If Shelvey’s requested a personal hearing and if there are a few of our players who’s account of what he said differ, his defence’ll focus on raising doubt about the accuracy of what the Leeds’ player’s said he heard.
Could the panel be sure that any decision they make’d be sound.

It would demonstrate pre-planning on a level that the F.A. is not noted for , but you never know.

Ten Years After were regulars on the university circuit. Did you see them?

Comment #10Did the Shelvey incident occur immediately after the
Anita tackle that brought the sending off?
I’ve watched it again on Youtube.
Shelvey was not that far away but immediately walked
away. There were not “several other players” near enough
to have heard anything and Shelvey didn’t seem to look
towards any other player.

If the Chronic report is accurate, even his own team-mates aren’t sure what was said.
Of course, he must be punished if he used racist language.

I dunno, it’s a tricky one and yes, I agree that if Shelvey’s said something that could be shown was racist, then yes he should be punished. But, the point I’m making is that if the allegation can’t be proven beyond reasonable doubt, then a verdict that would stand in law would be difficult to find.
And, though I’d never seen Ten Years live, I thought they were quite a powerful band.

Comment #14Maybe the mitigating circumstances are that the racist comments were aimed at Vurn for getting sent off !
