Rafa Benitez has just announced the Newcastle team to play at Elland Road today against Leeds United in what will be a real test of this Newcastle side in front of a sell-out crowd.
Rafa has made 4 changes to the side from last time out against Cardiff City.
Newcastle: Karl Darlow; Vurnon Anita, Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark, Paul Dummett; Jack Colback, Jonjo Shelvey; Matt Ritchie, Yoan Gouffran, Ayoze Perez; Dwight Gayle.
Substitutes: Matz Sels, DeAndre Yedlin, Chancel Mbemba, Isaac Hayden, Mohamed Diame, Christian Atsu, Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Dwight Gayle returns up front with Mitro on the bench and in comes Vurnon Anita at right back – one we expected.
Local lad Jack Colback is in partnering Jonjo Shelvey in central midfield in place of Isaac Hayden and Ayoze Perez beats out Diame for the withdrawn striker role behind Gayle.
It’s a good team with a very strong bench that Rafa may need in the second half depending on how the game goes.
This is what Rafa has said about an in-form Leeds United side prior to the game today:
“They are doing well, we are doing well, there will be a lot of fans in the stadium and I think it will be a massive game for everyone.”
“It is the kind of game you want to play in and you want to win.”
“They are in form, like us, and it will be very tough. I think it will be an interesting game.”
“I think Garry Monk is doing really well,” “At Napoli, we played against Swansea, and we beat them 3-1 in our stadium and drew 0-0 away.”
“Both games were very difficult.”
“I could see what he was doing there, and I can see what he is doing now.” “He is a good manager, a young manager and he is growing.”
Three fans in five think we can win this game today, which is not high compared to recent games.
Howay The Lads!!
