Pundit – How Rafa’s Got Newcastle Playing Absolutely Superbly

Trevor Sinclair played mainly for Blackpool, QPR and West Ham during his long career – and he is now a pundit and commentator on BBC radio 5.

The 43 year-old former winger, who played 12 times for England, was commentating on the Leeds United – Newcastle game this afternoon.

Newcastle won the much-anticipated game 2-0 fairly easily, but in the middle portion of the game Leeds put some pressure on the Newcastle defense.

The lads held firm however for another clean sheet – our first in three games – but it was also our 11th clean sheet in all competitions this season.

Rafa Benitez at Elland Road this afternoon

Credit to the impressive and improving goalkeeper Karl Darlow and a solid back four in front of him.

The Chronicle is reporting tonight that during his commentary for BBC Radio 5 Live this afternoon, this is what Trevor said about Newcastle:

“The build-up play and the way Rafa Benitez has got them playing is absolutely superb.”

“You talk about levels. Newcastle look like a Premier League team, playing against a Championship side.”

“That’s not me digging out Leeds because I think they have looked solid, but I think this Newcastle team could give any team in the Premier League a good game.”

“That’s how well they are playing.”

Rafa’s got the lads playing some really good football and that was witnessed by Newcastle’s second goal after 54 minutes – a great team goal finished off well by Newcastle’s deadly number 9 Dwight Gayle.

Dwight had also scored the first goal after 23 minutes when Leeds United goalkeeper Robert Green dropped the ball at his feet so Dwight poked it over the line – a gift if

It reminded us of the soft goal he let in while playing for England against the US in the World Cup in South Africa six years ago.

It was another excellent win by Newcastle and it put us 5 points ahead of Brighton at the top of the Championship.

Oh and by the way Mr Monk, we too had a good penalty shout ruled out, if anything ours was more clear cut.

Again using an even worse player to illustrate is brilliant! Look, it’s great that we are doing well. It’s great that certain players thrive and are doing a job in this league. But come promotion, we have to be realistic and put aside the quality that got us where we are now. Don’t let it feel personal, it’s just the way it is.

Looked a nailed-on penalty for Leeds. The little ginger freak jumped with his arms flailing. Doesn`t matter if it’s not deliberate if you do that. Darlow was clearly MOM by the way. Looks like Benitez has come to his senses and shelved his flawed experiment with the Belgian sweeper-keeper-flapper-clown.

Match day threads often used to hit 450+ posts.
I wouldn’t want to engage with a character like Jib anywhere. He’s a type you’d cross the street to avoid, but without the wit to understand why people might want to steer clear of him. Life is too short to spend it in the company of loud mouthed offensive twunts, and I am sure I am not alone in being one of those who rarely posts simply because of the polluted atmosphere on the blog.

Benitez winkled all that money out of Liverpool and Spurs for Widjnaldum and Sissoko and the players he’s brought in are worth more now on balance than what we paid for them so well have we been playing. So we’ll more than have the money to reshape again to real effect once back.

I think all of those who started and made the bench are more than capable of being part of a good epl squad of players under Rafa, and I see Yedlin, Lascelles, Clark, Shelvey, Ritchie, Mitro and possibly Darlow and perhaps Mbemba and Perez as regular starters along with the 4 or 5 genuinely top additions that we are well placed to get.

Geting 30 million for Sissoko will go down as the seasons equivalent to the Great Train Robbery.
Spuds were well and truly mugged.
Once his ban is over they’ll try to incorporate him into the side but with more and more crap performances he’ll go further down the pecking order.
And to think some on here thought and still think he was worth keeping.

If you look at teams that have been promoted the ones who mostly stick to the team that got them up are the ones that tend to do well.

Id say Rafa might bring in 2 or 3 players tops,he will probs sell a striker or two and buy a creative midfielder.

    The overrated Frenchman

I’ve seen those type of calls given before.

The reason it wasn’t was because his arms were not flailing about.

I’m not sure what his hair colour has to do with anything.

The only freakish thing about Colback is how he managed to con the scum into giving him a free transfer – that was freakishly dumb of Sunlun
    😀

I thought he was worth keeping, because I think on ability and if focused he’d be far too hot for Championship opposition and a ready made player if we returned. I felt the same about Widjnaldum, Janmaat and Townsend and De Jong if fit, although I knew Benitez would have his work cut out getting their heads right.

I also thought players like Obertan, Collocini and even Rivierre could contribute to promotion and be replaced once back. Rafa had other ideas that I didn’t see as realistically more likely achieving a better outcome. Obviously I was worrying over nothing. Benitez has done a stunning recruitment job.

Perez is starting to look leaner and more grimacing, but he was dispossessed 5 times today, and his pass succession was the worst on the pitch for both sets of outfield players.

There is no doubt that Perez is a dangerous player who will punish mistakes, he just needs to start being more effective taking players on. Statistically, the side carried Perez today.
