Sky Sports Pundit Makes Odd Claim About Benitez

Former Magpies left-back Stuart Pearce has told Sky Sports News today that he’s not sure who can stop Newcastle,  who went to Elland Road on Saturday afternoon and beat an in-form Leeds United side 2-0 in front of a sold-out stadium.

Newcastle won with two goals from number 9 Dwight Gayle, who seems to be scoring goals for fun this season and now has 13 in 14 appearances for the Magpies – and top of the Championship goalscorer list.

Newcastle have surged to the top of the Championship over the last eight games after we drew at Villa Park 1-1 back on September 24th conceding a last minute equalizer – almost two months ago.

stuart-pearce-believes-in-014

Stuart Pearce – very strange statement

And we have won every game since, starting with that incredible come from behind win at St. James’ Park against Norwich City, when we scored two goals deep into stoppage time to win the game 4-3.

Here’s how we stand at the moment at the top of the league.

PosTeamGamesGDPoints
1Newcastle464594
2Brighton463493
3Reading46485
4Sheffield Wednesday461581
5Huddersfield46-281
6Fulham462880

Stuart thinks it will be difficult for other clubs to catch Newcastle, but it’s his comment about the Newcastle manager that quickly grabs the attention.

This is what Stuart told Sky Sports news:

“I’m not sure how you stop them.”  “They have the biggest squad, arguably one of the best managers in the league.”

“Arguably the best set of supporters and I think they are going to be unstoppable this year, with momentum on their side.”

Arguably one of the best managers in the league?

So who else in the Championship has won three European trophies – one Champions League (Liverpool) and two Europa Leagues (Valencia, Chelsea) – one FIFA Club World Cup (Inter-Milan) , plus the Spanish League twice with Valencia – beating out Real Madrid and Barcelona.

That’s among other trophies Rafa has won like the FA Cup with Liverpool.

Maybe it was a slip of the tongue by Stuart but “arguably” infers Rafa may not be one of the best managers in the second division.

It must have been a slip of the tongue.

That’s right isn’t it?

🙂

    Afternoon all,

Would like to throw my wish list into the mix for what I believe is needed and more importantly achievable, should we get promoted

    Schneiderlin
    Tielemans
    Willems
    Insigne
    Knockaert
    Sturbridge, if he stays fit
    Veltman

I honestly think they could all be doable and be a part of the ethic Benitez would look for

That list looks fine except for Veltman. I watch Ajax almost every week as my best friend is a big Ajax fan ( he’s from Amsterdam). Veltman is one of the poorest players in that team. Would be a trainwreck if we got him.

I’d put money on us going in for Insigne IF we get promoted (lets not get too complacent) Creative/flair player who has decent work ethic

Me too mate it would be the absolute dream signing for me, works hard, scores, creates and can be a nasty little bugger when he needs to also. Slot him in the no10, with either diame and jonjo behind or tielemans and schneiderlin that would be very decent

    Ed,

Ooh, I’m not sure about your new header graphic!?! Is Photoshop on the blink?

Or is it time you opened up the floor for any budding graphic designers to chip in with an offering?

That’s not an offer from me in case you are wondering.

Didn’t see it and from what I read (very little info) Lazaar was a fret (nearly set up Murphy from a cross) and hairdryer teed up Murphy for his goal from a cross.

I couldn’t see where either played though so my best guess would be hairdryer at LB with Lazaar LW.

Unless of course he played RB.

Rafa, Laschelles and Perez were in attendance apparently.

I rally hope Rafa reads this blog.

He’ll be having a right old chuckle at some of the wish lists some folk have come up with.

Not so amusing for him will be the dissing of some club stalwarts.

We probably have the best squad of players since SBR’s day yet some bloggers find a way to whinge about some of them.

Haidara, Lazaar and Murphy all played well for the reserves from what I can tell. I feel a bit bad for Murphy tbh hes unlikely to get a sniff but tbf he probably knew that when he signed for us

Haidara and Lazaar getting up to fitness and speed is good though

i know haidara has had no luck with injuries and he splits the fans when it comes to like/dislike but he needs a spell of games, not sure he’s going to push dummet out the side, although dummet is about due to have some rest/rotation that the rest of the squad seem to have, dummet did look a little off against leeds.

The received info from CP is that there is a conflict between Zaha and Townsend as Andros is not happy on the left wing.
I seem to recall he never complained about which side he played on with us.

Please go all in to purchase Young KASPER DOLBERG from Ajax.
19 years old.. First season in the dutch league.. Played som games in Europe.. Stats as we speak: 12 games 8 goals.. And some of those goals are World class.. If Ajax want 20 mil for him it would be cheap..
For those of you, who havent seen him play.. Look him up on youtube.. He is fast, he is strong, he is strong in the air, his technique is World class, he kicks like a horse.. And he is cold as ice on the last third on the field.

when we signed him,i remember him saying he would play left but he almost always played on the right….playing the right gets him the limelight if he cuts inside and scores, playing on left he’d be more of a supply line with crosses so not as much limelight…..got to say that boils my piss a bit to be honest….solano made his name from being a great supplier of chances, seems that isnt good enough for the modern player.

cant see that happening mate, haidara has played only leftback his whole career so i doubt he would know what the job entails…..mbemba on the other hand,he plays there for his country he’s big, strong gets around the pitch with pace, tackles strong and has a pass on him.

Lesh……… I don’t think there’s much comparison between Rafa and Pardew when it comes to motivating players and playing them in their most effective position. I’m sure Andros is regretting the move but money, agent’s influence and the empty promises from wor Pardy will have all been in play.

Then it goes to the FA full board for consideration and they have a meteing to discuss the appointment which should be announced hopefully before the weekend.

THERE ARE NO OTHER CANDIDATES AND NO ONE ELSE IS BEING INTERVIEWED.

Tbf Haidara got worse in people’s opinions because he got injured, when he played he looks decent and he has all the attributes to succeed imo
As for him pushing Dummett out it won’t be as hard as people think I reckon…Galloway would of already done it

i like haidara, wish i’d seen more of him tbh but his injuries are crippling his chances(no pun intended),im not so sure about galloway, dont know enough about the lad and i noticed he couldnt get a game for west brom a few weeks back, thing s might of chamged now…..i cant see mbemba moving lascelles or clark at the minute, and as decent as colback has been this season whenever hes played i alaways feel like we lose a lot of headed battles in midfield, cant just dump that on him like, but he’s close to a ban for yellow cards,so maybe hayden and mbemba can get some game time, maybe even if shelvey gets banned as well, would hate lose mbemba, but cant see him being happy not playing for long…whatever position.
