It’s not too surprising but good to see – that Newcastle’s number 9 striker Dwight Gayle has made the EFL Team of the Week for last weekend’s games, after he scored another brace in Newcastle’s 2-0 win at Leeds.
Dwight leads all scorers in the Championship with 13 goals in 14 games for the Magpies and we are top of the league – 5 points clear of Brighton in second place.
Wonder how many goals he can score for us this season?

Comment #1I said he would have 20 by the end of january, possibly even christmas. Nothing has changed my mind. He is a proper number 9.

It’s a strange one how he’s banging them in for fun but the crowd haven’t seemed to take to him that much, the games I’ve been at the cheers for his announcement don’t seem fitting for a leading goal scorer, where as Mitro….

Comment #3Jail, it has me baffled and tbh I think its mainly the kids who are so much behind Mitro as first choice.
Gayle has always scored goals and does things Mitro cant do, i.e. play off the shoulder.
I vsee Mitro as more of an old fashioned number 10 in a 442 system and there is no place for him in the modern game.
Ive never really been a fan of that type of striker. Ive always preffered your coles, Linekars, Rush’s, wrights, keegans and varadis to your fergusons, whitehursts, reilly’s and quinns.
I think many of our younger fans know no different. Most only remember Carrol, Ba, Shearer and Mitro.
Shearer was different because he was world class and before his injury used to play off the shoulder just like Gayle does.
The only other player we have had in recent times that can do that was cisse, but many didnt rate him because the tactics used didnt suit his game, so they blame that type of player rather than the actual tactics.
