Rafa Benitez Targets This English Striker For Next Summer

The Chronicle is reporting today they think Newcastle want 24 year-old Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson.

The report is that their sources on the south coast are telling them Newcastle want Wilson probably for the summer transfer window.

Newcastle already persuaded one of Bournemouth’s best players – Matt Ritchie – to sign for us in the summer – and it looks like we may try again for a player who is still only 24 years old.

Callum started his career at his home town club Coventry, where he played for a couple of seasons in the first team and scored 23 goals in 55 games for them before signing on at Bournemouth in July, 2014 for around £3M.

Callum Wilson – 24 year-old Bournemouth striker

At Bournemouth he has done very well although he was out for most of last season when he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in September – and he didn’t return to action until late April.

This season he has scored 3 goals in 11 games and last season he got 5 goals in 13 appearances.

In Bournemouth’s promotion season of 2014-2015 he scored an excellent 23 goals in 50 appearances for the south coast club.

We’ve watched Bournemouth a couple of times this season and Callum looks a good skilled free-flowing player.

At only 24, if we do manage to tempt him away from AFC Bournemouth, he could improve under manager Rafa Benitez.

It also seems he fits the profile for young English (British) players Newcastle want to sign to strengthen the squad for next season.

We are also confident that Matt Ritchie, his former team-mate, can give both the Newcastle club and manager Rafa Benitez a very good reference.

🙂

    I think any player would improve greatly under Rafa to be honest. As has been shown this season. We’ll be linked with dozens of players between now and getting promoted and this is just another imo. Not sure what he’s got up his sleeve for January let alone next summer. If that knee goes again between now and then he won’t be joining us. Nasty injury that can easily repeat.

    Callum = the future
    Gerard = the past

    Completely un-phased by this shocking announcement on Gerrard’s retirement.

    Gerard was never on the wish list and would only have disrupted the balance that Rafa and his team of coaches have build with the players and the fans.
    We are in a new era and shouldn’t be falling into the trap of hiring people just on reputation.
    The only minor passing interest in this story is to see how much obscene money is dangled in front of Gerrard by the BBC and Sky to work in Scouse City TV. I’ll be watching but with the sound turned off.
    In Rafa we trust.

    Belfast
    I never plugged Gerard for a role with us.
    I got the distinct impression there was a certain coolness between Rafa and SG.

    Whoever Rafa the gaffer fancies suits me. The guy is a genius manager. Seeing him visit The Angel reminds me of Pardew who probably never went further than his hotel bar when manager!

    The Blackburn game will be Mick Lowes last as BBC commentator.
    Matthew Raisbeck is taking over.

    Plenty of scope for a bit of joking/teasing.

    Truth, though, is that we/(Rafa) is unlikely to join a queue
    for a £20-30m+ striker, and that’s what the recognised strikers
    seem to be fetching these days.

    Nah, not Callum Wilson, we want Charlie Adam.

    And Bobby (from a few threads back)……….

    Typing McCartney for McLaren’s an understandable slip. McCartney’s a characterless tw@t who plays rubbish too.

    WW – I could be wrong. I just feel that such strikers are
    usually overpriced.

    I just see the Rafa plan as being (attempting to be?) realistic
    and looking for strikers that can BECOME stars rather than
    established stars that come at a high price.

    * Charlie Adam ffs….. Charlie Austin….. or Charlie’s Aunt’s more like it.

    On that note, I’ll say bye everyone, bye bye. What’s left of me brain needs a recharge.

    Predictive text ?

    Mobile apps usually rely on recognising repetition and
    doing the same thing again.

    So – if you’ve typed rubbish before, predictive text will
    guide you to do the same again ! !

    Only kidding – not looking for an argument.
    Not even a 5-minute one.

    I can offer you a 10% discount on a five minute argument if that helps.

    I’m not blaming predictive text for my Adam/ Austin bloop. There’s nowt more to blame than my fast-disintegrating brain cell bank!
