The Chronicle is reporting today they think Newcastle want 24 year-old Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson.
The report is that their sources on the south coast are telling them Newcastle want Wilson probably for the summer transfer window.
Newcastle already persuaded one of Bournemouth’s best players – Matt Ritchie – to sign for us in the summer – and it looks like we may try again for a player who is still only 24 years old.
Callum started his career at his home town club Coventry, where he played for a couple of seasons in the first team and scored 23 goals in 55 games for them before signing on at Bournemouth in July, 2014 for around £3M.
Callum Wilson – 24 year-old Bournemouth striker
At Bournemouth he has done very well although he was out for most of last season when he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in September – and he didn’t return to action until late April.
This season he has scored 3 goals in 11 games and last season he got 5 goals in 13 appearances.
In Bournemouth’s promotion season of 2014-2015 he scored an excellent 23 goals in 50 appearances for the south coast club.
We’ve watched Bournemouth a couple of times this season and Callum looks a good skilled free-flowing player.
At only 24, if we do manage to tempt him away from AFC Bournemouth, he could improve under manager Rafa Benitez.
It also seems he fits the profile for young English (British) players Newcastle want to sign to strengthen the squad for next season.
We are also confident that Matt Ritchie, his former team-mate, can give both the Newcastle club and manager Rafa Benitez a very good reference.
