Shearer Explains Why Rafa Could Leave Newcastle

We wrote a piece this morning in which we said we hoped Mike Ashley would give Rafa Benitez and his coaching staff new and improved contracts – given that we do get promoted back to the Premier League this season.

We suggested 10 year contracts given that Mike was willing to give the mediocre Alan Pardew and his team eight year contracts back in October 2012 for finishing in 5th place the previous season.

If Mike Ashley wants Newcastle United to become a big success then it’s vital that the way the club is being run continues with Rafa in complete control of all football matters.

Alan Shearer – Rafa could leave Newcastle

Rafa is being assisted in no small way on the executive side of things by Managing Director Lee Charnley and his staff.

Alan Shearer has been speaking on the BBC’s Premier League Show and the Newcastle legend says he is worried that if Rafa doesn’t continue to get full backing from owner Mike Ashley he may even look to leave Newcastle:

“I think this is such a key period for Newcastle, the next 12 months.”

“They’ve got an iconic figure, a world-class manager, who has achieved almost everything in the game that you can.”

“To have him at Newcastle and to waste that, they now have to back him, or once they get up, they have to back him.”

“Otherwise he’ll be off – and we’ll be back to square one.”

Rafa Benitez to leave Newcastle – I feel as though I’m going to be sick!

That should never be allowed to happen and Mike will now know he has the perfect manager in place at Newcastle.

And the way the 56 year-old has transformed Newcastle into a very good side where the fans are again packing St. James’ Park in the Championship will not have gone unnoticed by some big clubs, who may start to eye Benitez.

However, to end this on a positive note – we think Mike Ashley will continue to support Rafa and maybe even more so should he be successful in getting us promoted straight back to the Premier League.

That is now looking very likely – but don’t tell Rafa we said that!

Surely MA will back him, he’s wasted enough on dross, so he has to realise that the Toon could be an excellent brand to promote. If we can make money in the Champo, then he must recognise the fact that we have to challenge the elite for bigger markets. Club has been leaking cash for years under Kinnear, Pardew, and Macca trying to run on the cheap, I think a businessman like Ash would know a failed business plan when he sees one. Back the manager, fedd the fans what we want, reap the rewards.

Get Rafa (all hail him) to make a bid for PEA, see if Mike backs him.

    That’ll test the waters.

Your post of a few threads back in which you presented some stats was enlightening.

Are you angling for the title of new Blog Googlemeister?

If you do harbour such ambition, Jib’ll be more than a tad pipped.

Common sense’s say that Ashley’ll consult with Charnley before an extension to Rafa’s contract is even put to him.

However, common sense and Ashley haven’t really been natural partners until Rafa was installed.

    Confirmed Rafa Bingo

    . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Darlow . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
    . . Yedlin . . . Lascelles . . .Mbemba . . . Dummett. .
    . . . . . . . . . . . Hayden . . . . Shelvey . . . . . . . . . . . .
    . . . Ritchie. . . . . . . Diame . . . . . . . . . . Gouffran . .
    . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Gayle . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I think Anita/Perez/Clark could get nods, but this is what I’d like. It would be good to see Atsu get another start in front of Gouffran and see if Lazaar is ready yet, but an away day might not be the right time to do either of those. I still hold out hope that Mitrovic will come good as a world beater, but, again, an away day is an unlikely time for him to get a start over Gayle at the moment.

Shearer said he didn’t think Rafa would stay after we went down so he’s no authority on what Rafa might or might not do.
That comment could well be aimed at Ashley just to keep him aware that Rafa will need funds next season.

I reckon Rafa has bought into the project to make NUFC Great again,
and will stay for the 3-year contract he has signed
(unless, by MUTUAL consent) Rafa and MA choose to go
    their own separate ways.

    After that – anyone’s guess.
If things are going well, I can see Rafa staying.
But – it won’t be money or a long contract that persuades him.
It will be continuing with the project and fulfilling the dreams
    of the fans.

If Ashley has any sense he will give rafa a 10 year contract, offer him 100 million for transfers plus any sales. Rafa would uild a legacy to last. I just hope he realises what he has right now and throws the kitchen sink in securing that successful future.
