Benitez Slams Performance – We Were Poor In Lots Of Ways

Rafa Benitez pulled no punches in his post game interview and he said he didn’t like a lot of the things Newcastle did today – in short he was extremely critical of Newcastle’s performance.

We lost our first game in 10 games with the other nine all being wins – but Newcastle seemed off-key today and Rafa made it clear he was unhappy with the performance this afternoon.

Rafa Benitez – disappointed with Newcastle’s performance today

This is what Rafa said after the game:

“It was very disappointing because I didn’t like the way we started the game.”

“And I didn’t like the way the game was being stopped all of the time with free-kicks and corners without giving us the advantage.”

“I didn’t like our reaction when we were losing.” “We must do better. I didn’t like the chances we didn’t take.”

“That’s what happens, we must look to the next game and make sure we don’t make the same mistakes.”

“I know that when you lose a game and change some players they will blame the manager.”

“But at the same time the way the game was going on we have to manage better and show some personality and then control the game in the way we have previously.”

“If you don’t perform at the level you have to perform you have to give credit to the opposition.”  “But they had too many things in favor and it wasn’t the same for us.”

“I don’t want to make excuses, we were poor with a lot of things and we didn’t take our chances when we had them.”

“We allowed them to play the way they wanted to play.”

This should hopefully act as a wake-up call for the players and maybe too many of our players are starting to believe their own headlines.

Back to basics for this team starting at Hull City on Tuesday night, but we must get back to our winning ways on Friday night at Nottingham Forest.

Rafa’s comments about the refereeing were hardly implied. But as you pointed out, that ref’s a tad card-happy so his interference wasn’t going to be a surprise.

As Rafa said, we didn’t manage the game as he expected but with six changes for it, that’s no surprise anyway

And, the result’s probably given some pointers about who’s not going to be with us next season.

I assume all the changes were because Rafa wants to put his “best” team out for the Cup at Hull.

Sounded like mbemba had a bit of a shocker bad touches and missing things, can’t see him breaking into the side anytime soon

Shame about today, but these things came happen. It’s long term we’re interested in, not a short term blip. As someone said, onwards and upwards.

Rafa will certainly have made a note of it for next time.

Hopefully we’re back to normal against Hull.

Also, the Palace result did make me chuckle. What a guy 😀 With NONE of his excuses from here. Same abysmal outcomes.

    Long live Rafa.

Hardly a surprise we did not manage the game with six changes and they fluffed their opportunity. Its a shame for Mbemba; hopefully the back of Gamez; Hayden has more growing to do; Atsu is in reality a striker; Perez continues to stumble over himself and only Yedlin deserves praise. Whilst trying not to rush for the long knife draw, 4231 formation does take a settled team to pull off.

Pardew has been wasting money since he arrived. Signing Adebayor should have been a warning sign for everybody associated with Palace.

Just got back from the game……

…we were sheeeite but the ref and linesman once again had such a shocker you would not believe it. Their goal came from a previous corner that never was. Their keeper picked up a backpass ffs!!!

But we were bad; like really bad. It’s almost as if Yedlin and Ritchie had never played together. Atsu was so lightweight. Mitro was pretty much molested by the Blackburn defence without any support from the ref.

And we missed 3 sitters so could have still won it.

The key for me was not playing Lascelles and Colback not being fit.

Anyway, gutted as I am, we’re still top of the fizzy pop! 🙂

    just got in from match
    here goes…

Worst display for many a season saying we were playing third bottom of the Championship who deserved their win. Made us look like the third bottom team

Sorry Rafa – shite team selection – Was worried in pub before the game when I heard the team – with Colback injured you took the guts out of the team with dropping Goufron and Dummett.

NO battlers who do the dirty work full of prima donnas who were not given the time to preen their feathers.

1 shot on target all game and that was a deflection – ARGHHHHH!!!!!

Sorry Rafa playing third bottom at home we go with one up front
played hoofball to a player who did not looked bothered
Far to slow on the ball thought process far to slow went backwards and HOOOOOOOOF
NO one wanted the ball today – NO movement – wrong decisions – got in each others way – IT WAS AWFUL

    merit marks

Darlow 6 had nothing much to do but distribution shite hoofed it all-owa the place.
Gamez 3 – slow weak as pisswater
Mbemba 7 My MOM for the TOON didn’t understand taking him off only one who wanted to play football
Clark 7 – got up and down the pitch defended OK might of scored
Yedlin 5 – plenty of running but passing poor
Ritchie 5 – ran all-over with no end product – again passing poor.
Shelvey 6 – OK but his passing not up to of late
Hayden 4 – awful couldn’t pass or tackle – easily knocked off the ball
Perez 3 – Pity he does not play as well as he is turned out – piss poor couldn’t control the ball – pass the ball – strength of dishwater
Mitrovich 3 – waste of space – don’t think he won a header all-day again lost his touch ball control back to watching the opposition player and not the ball.
Atsu 3 – Piss poor kept running up blind allies – AGAIN decision making ball control piss poor.

Dummett 6 – did well when he came on set up great chance

On that display if we go up – not one of the players on their display today would get a game for anyone else
