Newcastle 0 Blackburn 1 – Video Highlights

Here’s the EFL video of the game today on YouTube so it should play around the world.

Newcastle were shocked by Blackburn Rovers and lost 1-0 with their goal coming after 75 minutes in front of over 52,000 fans at St. James’ Park.

🙁

Again the video is chopped off a bit but you can see the play fairly well.

    Mag52,
    You wouldn’t say 32M on a striker isn’t expensive?

    just got in from match
    here goes…

Worst display for many a season saying we were playing third bottom of the Championship who deserved their win. Made us look like the third bottom team

Sorry Rafa – shite team selection – Was worried in pub before the game when I heard the team – with Colback injured you took the guts out of the team with dropping Goufron and Dummett.

NO battlers who do the dirty work full of prima donnas who were not given the time to preen their feathers.

1 shot on target all game and that was a deflection – ARGHHHHH!!!!!

Sorry Rafa playing third bottom at home we go with one up front
played hoofball to a player who did not looked bothered
Far to slow on the ball thought process far to slow went backwards and HOOOOOOOOF
NO one wanted the ball today – NO movement – wrong decisions – got in each others way – IT WAS AWFUL

    merit marks

Darlow 6 had nothing much to do but distribution shite hoofed it all-owa the place.
Gamez 3 – slow weak as pisswater
Mbemba 7 My MOM for the TOON didn’t understand taking him off only one who wanted to play football
Clark 7 – got up and down the pitch defended OK might of scored
Yedlin 5 – plenty of running but passing poor
Ritchie 5 – ran all-over with no end product – again passing poor.
Shelvey 6 – OK but his passing not up to of late
Hayden 4 – awful couldn’t pass or tackle – easily knocked off the ball
Perez 3 – Pity he does not play as well as he is turned out – piss poor couldn’t control the ball – pass the ball – strength of dishwater
Mitrovich 3 – waste of space – don’t think he won a header all-day again lost his touch ball control back to watching the opposition player and not the ball.
Atsu 3 – Piss poor kept running up blind allies – AGAIN decision making ball control piss poor.

Dummett 6 – did well when he came on set up great chance

On that display if we go up – not one of the players on their display today would get a game for anyone else

N’Golo Kanté seems to be the common factor in the difference in Leicester and Chelsea’s form this season.

Agreed with most of your comments, Charlie…but I thought Mbemba lost us that calmness in defence.

I can’t believe Gayle wasn’t brought in til the 86th minute.

And Blackburn Rovers’ goalie was the biggest cnut I have ever seen. He needed attention off the pitch, whilst holding up the game, to have new sock ties put on.

The ref, of couse, obliged him.

good decision by Rafa’s to ring the changes ahead of the cup quarterfinal on Tuesday, worth risking 3 points for it.

    Jail.

    Get your facts right mate.
£27 million spent on Benteke, £25 million back from Bolaisie.
Net spend since AP at Palace – £22 million. ( Half as much as us incidently over the last two years).

Do you blame him with some of the performances that were being put in around him
Half the bloody team could not do the basics like
Control, pass, head the ball run into space ta Cole
It was one of the most inept performances I have seen from the Toon for a while

Mag52, having a comparatively low net spend does not equate to not wasting large amounts of money.

Pardew has spent around £70 million + big money contracts. Some of the incoming finances that allowed Pardew to spend, were from the sale of players who were at Palace before Pardew arrived.

Agree with Charlie’s assessment. But you gotta love Rafa. At least he accepts primary responsibility for the defeat.
Mitro was woeful. Too slow. Too heavy. Couldn’t get off the ground. Not good enough.
    Atsu also not good enough.
    Poor performance. Poor atmosphere.

I havent seen you comment much on here before the game but if your like 99% of other fans you would have been saying how great everything and now suddenly everythings gone to sh*t and not one of our players would get into a prem team, which is b0llocks

It was an off day today, we were always gonna have one, we move on.

His net spend 2016/17 has been £8.5 mill. For the previous season it was £13.5 mill.
I make that £22 mill. in his time there.

Mag52, Jail was correct on Benteke, there are add-ons to the deal Crystal Palace made with Liverpool.

£5 million is a big difference in net spend, if you are projecting the Palace net spent is £22 million.

    Agree with your player ratings.

Mbebmba didn’t fill me with confidence at the back, but his running with the ball, passes and crosses especially in the first half, showed up a lot of his team mates

Dummet did very well when he came on, looked solid

Clark playd his normal steady game

There’s a clue here. Although the defence were the most affected by the changes, it was the poor form of the front 6 which lets us down. 6 players who many would pick to start.

Mitro will never be able to lace Gayle’s boots never mind displace him from the team, so I hope we now have that matter sorted if we’re always play only 1 up front – as looks likely

What happens if we get bat Tuesday then it was a total waste of team selection
Thought our biggest priorities as promotion

And if you read my posts at the beginning of the week I posted that I thought we needed just about a whole new team in the summer as with the squad we have got we would struggle

    And
I have said all season we have to many midgets lightweight players in our squad
I’ve Gayle, Atsu, Anita, Ritchie, Perez, Gamez, to name a few

Mick Lowes and John Anderson were in agreement that Mbemba is the best central defender at the club.

However if you aren’t played for weeks on end , it is the worst position for getting ring rusty.

I hope there is more to his non-selection than just Rafa being ticked off for his bizarre own goal vs Wolves !

Mitro standing still with back to goal is so easy to defend.
Blackburn playing two up front to slow down our distribution from the back was quite effective.
Keeping Shelvey penned in on occasions also worked.
    Owen Coyle did his homework.
They didn’t have to win we didn’t have the nous to win.

So, not the 4-0 I had in mind – although that was before I’d seen the team. Changing 60% of your outfield players was always likely to be difficult, but it’s far from being a disaster. Once in a while even the best teams just don’t click and today was one of those days. Strange atmosphere today, with some concern about the selection and the record that wanted breaking. Thought Clark was our motm personally but overall just one of those games we need to move on from. Shit happens and it happened today. Doubt it will have any effect on the outcome in May though, we’ll still be promoted imo. In a nutshell we were just shocking against a team that any other day we would have demolished. That’s football though. A win on Tuesday night followed by a result on Friday night and this will be forgotten about. All in all a poor game but not the end of the world. We’ll bounce back from this because we’ve got the best squad and manager in the league. Maybe Murphy might have given their rather large centre backs a harder game, because they towered over Mitro and completely negated his strengths. Personally I would’ve brought Gayle on much sooner but let’s be fair, Rafa’s got it right far more than he’s got it wrong so we can give him a pass on this one I reckon. If we go another nine games unbeaten – or better still win them all – not many people will remember this shocker.

Mick Lowes went to town slagging Gouffran off when Rafa brought him back in early in the season. A complete hatchet job.
He made a good speech before the game. But he forgot to mention Pardew whom he used to feed with excuses. He was far too pally with him.
I happen to think Lascelles is our best defender. I hope we keep him for 10 years and he becomes a club legend.

Why ? Because for an average manager in a small club with a small budget, he rescued CP from relegation in his first season, and got them to Wembly in his second.

to be honest i find it hard to pick a man of the match we were that bad
i would hate to think Rafa put that team out to save players for a micky mouse cup game that in the scheme of things means nothing i would rather have had the 3 points
Perez by far the worst player on the pitch

The funny thing is that one of the Irish radio stations ( Newstalk) was saying that Pardew had been talking about how hard they had worked on defence this week. They have Pardew sussed in terms of his cockiness – unlike many English media outlets – and they said he would ne “insufferable” if they won. I reckoned he would get them lower mid table given the backing. Looks like I could be wrong 🙂

As a not too regular listener to Radio Newcastle I picked up on ML’s hatred of Gouffran a few games back.

I actually used to know the fat git quite well back in the day when he did joint commentary with Mick Martin ,when he lived in St Peters basin (he may still ).

Do you know he is a life long Nottingham Forest supporter ?

Mag 52, none of his list of excuses from here now apply, yet the same catastrophic patterns occur. He’s a managerial blagger of the highest order.

Many could see it the first time round, this merely gives it a second underlining and it’s not even at Christmas yet.
