Newcastle Had An Off Day – That’s All

It was always going to be a game that we didn’t expect to lose that would end our winning streak – and indeed it was to 3rd bottom Blackburn that we lost 1-0 today in front of a packed out St. James’ Park with a crowd of over 52,000.

That was only their 5th win of the season, but Newcastle simply had an off day – it happens.

So we didn’t get those 10 wins in a row – maybe after the next 10 games?

This is also the first time we haven’t scored since we were last beaten – 2-0 by Wolves – four days after we had massacred QPR 6-0 at Loftus Road.

And Chancel Mbemba was also playing in that game and was dropped after that defeat – and strangely – that was the last time he started for Newcastle.

We couldn’t believe the result – but there again we had some luck over the 9 game winning streak.

But we are not going to win every game and this team we have doesn’t seem to like draws much – we have only one draw  in our 21 games this season.

We seem to either win or lose and we win an awful lot more games than we lose.

But what we need now is to start another winning streak.

Wins are what will get us promoted this season and next up in the league are Nottingham Forest on Friday night away – so that will be the next challenge and we somehow need a win in that game to get us back on track.

We play Hull away in the League Cup quarter finals on Tuesday night.

Here’s the state of things at the top of the Championship after today’s games.

Note we are still at the top of the league.

🙂

    From the Holmesdale blog

    Under the heading New Manager:-

“Literally anyone available would win more than 5 premier league games in 37 with the squad we have.”
