These Two Englishmen Would Be Great Signings In Summer

Two English players Newcastle have been linked with recently are 23 year-old Leeds United left back Charlie Taylor and 24 year-old Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson and it could be they are two top targets for Newcastle this coming summer.

Gone are the days when Newcastle looked for cheap buys in France – with less than half of those acquisitions paying off – and it seems Rafa wants a sizable English or British core of players at the club.

Certainly new players like Ciaran Clark, Matt Ritchie, Isaac Hayden and Dwight Gayle fit that profile and have been outstanding for Newcastle so far this season.

Charlie-Taylor-465013

23 year-old Charlie Taylor – free agent this summer

There are a number of our players whose contracts run out next summer, but it could be that Rafa waits until the summer before he makes any real decisions on who he is going to keep and who he will allow to leave of his current squad of players.

He will obviously need to improve the squad in terms of quality and Taylor and Wilson would be good signings for us.

Charlie Taylor’s main position is at left-back but he can also play as a left-winger and the lad is highly rated and has so far made 91 appearances and scored 3 goals with 10 assists for Leeds United.

He made his debut at the age of 17 back in August, 2011 as a substitute against local rivals Bradford City and he played extremely well against us at Elland Road last weekend – he looked a class player.

Leeds wanted £7M for him last summer but his contract at Leeds runs out next summer, so if it’s not renewed he will become a free agent at that time.

callum-wilson-987

Callum Wilson – 24 year-old Bournemouth striker

24 year-old Callum Wilson started his career for a couple of seasons at his home town club Coventry, and in that time he scored 23 goals in 55 games for them before signing on at Bournemouth in July, 2014 for around £3M.

Callum was out for most of last season after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in September of last year – and he didn’t return to action until late April.

In Bournemouth’s promotion season of 2014-2015 he scored 23 goals in 50 appearances for the south coast club.

Callum’s now played 24 Premier League games in total and scored 8 goals so it looks like he can be a good player in England’s top league, if Rafa does manage to get him to Newcastle.

However, he could cost quite a bit, especially if he keeps scoring goals in the Premier League this season.

So we’d be happy enough to get these two Englishmen into the club next summer.

Maybe with another two top players also coming in?

We’re sure that Rafa Benitez will be given big money to spend next summer if we are promoted back to the Premier League.

What do you think?

Lesh, definitely mate. RIP Fidel Castle.

Anyhow, happy match day chaps. Gone for 4-0 on my super6 today. Anybody else do the super6? Bit of fun that makes the results even more interesting. Can’t wait for the game today. Be nice to break the record on a high, but any win will do. Winning ten on the bounce ain’t to be sniffed at by any club, let alone a wee club in the north east ? Sold out our tickets and half of theirs. “Shall we sell some seats for you?!” ? Should be a good party atmosphere that Blackburn needn’t even contemplate pooping. An early goal to settle the nerves and take it from there. Anyway, wherever you are watching from or listening to the game, I’ll raise a cheer on your behalf. Howay the lads!!!! Bloody bus. 🙂

Mickley, I was curious about that myself mate. Fair enough, he made his bed etc but I wonder if he’s been on the phone to Rafa.
    ‘Rafa, it’s Andros’
    ‘Andros?’
    ‘Townsend. Remember…
‘Ah yes, Vaguely. How can I help? ‘
‘I made a terrible mistake when we split up. Newcastle was my only real love. I was confused and dazzled by the bright lights of Crystal Palace. Can we start again please?’
‘Hello? Are you still there Rafa?’
    Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Seriously though, he did look a good fit for us, no doubt about it, but we replaced him with Ritchie and think we got the better deal myself. If Rafa wanted him back I’d go with it, but can’t see it happening myself. He blew his chance really.

Would take Taylor as backup to Lazaar – the plan must be to get him upto speed for next season otherwise why buy him.

Dummett to be cover/squad player between 4th/5th choice CB and 3rd choice LB for when the injuries hit – Haidara to be let go of sadly, just cant rely on him staying fit.

Wouldnt touch Townsend, he made his choice so stick with it.

Think the key position will be finding a top PL ready no10 as it is the one main position we dont have proven quality – Perez and Diame are hit and miss so this will be key. Also need another top wide player and confirm Atsu.

2 good players who would improve our squad

As for today’s match should be pretty easy but it’s one we’d normally lose so here’s hoping. Personally I’d like to see Mbemba and Lazaar start and have Dummett and Clark gear up for Hull

    late response to Lesh
Had a feeling there might be a few wrong in my selection, what with the cup match on tuesday. Not sure about murphy, but who knows? I was thinking maybe haidara or lazaar in, with this mornings rafa revealings it sounds like there may be changes from the ‘usualish’.

I don’t see why we should play Murphy for the sake of playing him, he’s been bought as a back up and competition to Mitro, Mitro is not slacking, injured or suspended, so when Gayle isn’t playing Mitro needs to start. He signed knowing he wouldn’t play that much and is on a good wage for it.

    EGB,
I’ve given up on that idea as a lost cause, as long as there in before it’s announced anywhere. If someone posts at 1:59PM and Ed posts it 30 seconds later then they’ll be getting nil point.
