Six Changes – Yedlin, Mbemba, Gamez, Atsu And Mitrovic Start

nufc-emblemblackburn_crest

Rafa Benitez has just announced the team for the home game against Blackburn Rovers today, where a win would create a new record of 10 successive wins at the Newcastle club.

Rafa has made a number of changes today – probably to give players a rest before the League Cup quarter-final tie at Hull City on Tuesday night.

Newcastle: Darlow: Yedlin Mbemba Clark Gamez; Hayden ShelveyRitchie Perez  Atsu; Mitrovic
Subs: Sels Lascelles Dummett Anita Gouffran Diame Gayle

Yedlin, Mbemba and Gamez come into the back four and Christian Atsu gets another start on the left wing – and in comes Aleksandar Mitrovic up front in place of Dwight Gayle.

So that looks like six changes from the side that won at Leeds last Saturday.

This is what Rafa has said about the game today that will once again see a sell-out St. James’ Park:

“We are doing well, that is true, but before any game, normally I send the same message – to concentrate on the game and get three points.”

“Before this game, it’s even more important. I was talking with the players about this – no complacency, be sure that we are really focused because if we win, we can get three points and a record.”

“To get three points is the priority for me. The other things will come, but to get three points is crucial for us.”

Nine fans out of ten think we can win this game today – let’s hope they are right.

Veery exciting squad, although surely Rafa is playing B-string here, at least in his own mind? Giving Lascelles and Gayle and Dummett a break? Shame Lazaar couldn’t get close..

Well I am not to bothered about losing out to Colback’s injury in the Rafa bingo, this team has a lot of changes in it.

I went for a 3-0 win today, not so sure now, but still think we will win, just the game may be closer than I first thought.

We dont have a b string mate we have a squad

Gamez played LB in the CL last season, Mbemba was our best defender last season and Mitro has been scoring goals not exactly bad options

Very exciting rotation from Rafa, clearly keeping Lascelles Gouffran and Gayle and Dummett fresh for Tuesday. Looking forward to seeing Gamez and both Ritchie and Atsu on the wings

I mentioned Murphy this morning> It was merely in late response to a Lesh comment on mine and another’s bingo entries;along the lines of what if and spanner throwing. My view being I thought it unlikely.

Resting some players to make sure we have a strong squad for a cup tie in 3 days time
And they are on the bench, just in case

As Bob said “The times they are a changing”

Been waiting a long time to be looking forward as much as this to match day

Interesting line-up and a sure sign Rafa wants that EFL cup and smells Hull City’s blood.

3pts again today please. Tighten our chokehold on the league.

    3-0 Toon.

Don’t be too concerned you Gouffran fans out there. He is on the bench.

Should still be a good win for us even without our lucky mascot.

I expect Mitrovic will get plenty of chances today, Richie and Yedlin are pretty decent on the right, and Gamez with Atsu give us a new look on the left, so I would expect plenty of crosses coming in, then we have Shelvey, and Hayden to hold and control the midfield, so hopefully Perez will have some luck today too.

    Mag52,
I was feeling a little concerned; is it right that we’re yet to win a championship fixture when the Gouf doesn’t start? Over to you, Jib.
One of the most attacking lineups I’ve seen in a while. Hope there’s goals in it. Last time Mitro and Perez started together was qpr.

Some natural width from the off, hope we make full use of it.
