Rafa Benitez has just announced the team for the home game against Blackburn Rovers today, where a win would create a new record of 10 successive wins at the Newcastle club.
Rafa has made a number of changes today – probably to give players a rest before the League Cup quarter-final tie at Hull City on Tuesday night.
Newcastle: Darlow: Yedlin Mbemba Clark Gamez; Hayden Shelvey; Ritchie Perez Atsu; Mitrovic
Subs: Sels Lascelles Dummett Anita Gouffran Diame Gayle
Yedlin, Mbemba and Gamez come into the back four and Christian Atsu gets another start on the left wing – and in comes Aleksandar Mitrovic up front in place of Dwight Gayle.
So that looks like six changes from the side that won at Leeds last Saturday.
This is what Rafa has said about the game today that will once again see a sell-out St. James’ Park:
“We are doing well, that is true, but before any game, normally I send the same message – to concentrate on the game and get three points.”
“Before this game, it’s even more important. I was talking with the players about this – no complacency, be sure that we are really focused because if we win, we can get three points and a record.”
“To get three points is the priority for me. The other things will come, but to get three points is crucial for us.”
Nine fans out of ten think we can win this game today – let’s hope they are right.
