How Newcastle Compare To 2009-2010 Season

After winning 9 games in a row Newcastle unexpectedly lost 1-0 yesterday at St. James’ Park to 3rd bottom Blackburn Rovers.

That was certainly a huge shock to fans after 90% thought we would win this game in our poll before the game.

It was the third time this season we had lost at home and that’s three more home defeats than we suffered in all of the 2009-2010 Championship season,  when we went undefeated at home.

But after 18 games played we are still one point above where we were seven years ago.

We scored less and conceded fewer goals seven years ago, but had a slightly worse goal difference then +19 compared to +22 today.

Seven years ago we had just beaten Swansea at home 3-0 and that was our 5th win in a row since losing two games in a row – to Nottingham Forest 1-0 and Scunthorpe 2-1 – both away games.

Here’s how we stand today in comparison after 18 league games played.

Chris Hughton’s Brighton side won 2-1 at home to Fulham yesterday coming from 1-0 down at half time and are now only 2 points behind Newcastle in the Championship.

Don’t compare us to that season , what a stupid thing to do
we finished that season with ZERO defeats at home
thus far we lost 3 easy game in front of a full house !!! this is shocking & sad at the same time 🙁
just one game from beating a record and we BOTTLE it
it’s gonna take a long time for me to recover from this defeat against a bottom 3 team , sick of us losing in our home 🙁

Lowly Blackburn ?? our player need to wake the fk up before they find themselves struggling even more at SJP and dropping out of the top 2 ….

But we cannot overreact either – one bad performance – that’s what has happened. Now we need to make quick recovery. That’s the important thing.

Hard to take 3 home defeat , it’s not like when you lose away games , I am starting to get worried every time we play at SJP , and also the fans play big factor
If we don’t score inside 20 – 30 minute the atmosphere
becomes so so so flat and naive

Thank god the next 2 games are away games
Just what we needed haha !!!!!
