These Players Could Be Leaving Newcastle This Summer

Rafa Benitez will have a lot of decisions to make in the summer when he gets his squad ready for what we hope is a season back in the Premier League and the big time.

There are a number of players who will be returning from loan and a number of players whose contracts are  ending in the summer.

There are also players in the current squad who may be in danger of being moved on.

So which players will Rafa want to keep for next season as he will add to the squad in January and next summer?

Rafa Benitez – Newcastle manager – another big clear out?

The players whose contracts run out this summer include:

Vernon Anita
Yoan Gouffran
Sammy Ameobi
Haris Vuckic
Cheick Tiote

The only players of those five who have any chance of a new deal are Anita and Gouffran and of those two we think Anita has the better chance of getting a new deal.

So of those five players only Anita may still be around next July.

Here are the players currently out on loan.

Florian Thauvin will join Marseille in January, because he’s already played the 12 games that will automatically trigger his transfer for £10M.

Of the loan players Adam Armstrong and Jamie Sterry will be going nowhere because they are ones for the future at Newcastle, but there are question marks about the others.

As we’ve already said, Sammy and Haris will almost certainly be released and we don’t see Kevin Mbabu being kept at the club for too much longer.

Emmanuel Riviere  has no future at Newcastle and it will depend on how Tim Krul and Siem de Jong play in Holland this season as to whether they will be part of the first team squad next season.

It’s doubtful they will be.

And then there are the players currently in the first team squad and it doesn’t seem that fringe players like Sadio Haidara, Cheick Tiote (already covered) have futures at the club.

Also players who cannot get a game like Daryl Murphy, Achraf Lazaar, Jesus Gamez and even Chancel Mbemba may be in danger of being moved out.

Chancel looked poor yesterday in his first game back since we were beaten 2-0 by Wolves at home.

It could be that of all the players we have discussed only Vurnon Anita will be part of the first team squad next season.

But players like Murphy, Lazaar, Gamez and others must be given their chance this season to show what they can do before any good decisions can be made on them.

Rafa has already shown last summer that he’s not afraid to clear things out and we have to believe that in trying to improve the quality of the squad in the summer he will have another potentially massive clear-out at the club.

What do you think?

Jib…. From previous thread. I tend to agree on Pardew although with his ego I can’t imagine him making a good assistant.

Be careful now, don’t allow your brains to go to your head !

I suspect one or two beyond those will be sold or released, whether we are promoted or (lo and behold) not.

Shame about yesterday because now, since we lost from a bottom club, they’ll fancy it again.

Yesterday showed NUFC will need replacements for Atsu and Gouffron. Shelvey plus a someone as good or better to play that role. Will need a complement or better to Perez or Diame at #10. Need full backs good enough to play for their national team. Like to see one more central defender that gets call ups by a European national team.
