In what has been a very close game Hull City and Newcastle are now playing extra time in their game at the KCOM stadium after the score was 0-0 after 90 minutes.
Newcastle had the better of the first haf but as the second half Hull came more and more into the ascendancy and Newcastle were holding on well in defense.
Achraf Lazaar and Ciaran Clark in action tonight
But then on 89 minutes after an altercation between Jamaal Lascelles and Dieumerci Mbokani where the Hull player seemed to head-but the Newcastle captain – Jamaal was given a yellow card and the Hull player was sent off.
In theory this should help Newcastle – but you never know in football.
Christian Atsu was brought on for Matt Ritchie after 81 minutes and Hull have used all their substitutes.

Nope I haven’t mate, you made an assumption. I’ve been on previously praising rafa for turning the club round massively. I don’t however hide from absolving him of blame when he gets it wrong.
Some on here won’t have a single bad word uttered about the man, especially when he gets it wrong. To me it makes no sense not having mitro on the bench and rotating a keeper, a position that doesn’t need rotating.
Hull are what they are, if I really wanted to slate Rafa I would be a lot more harsh by including his timing of subs etc. I like everyone else am gutted we are out of the cup…..but like I said it is what it is and we can now concentrate on the cup which isn’t a formality.
Unlike you I call it how I see it, Rafa has done a lot right but got it massively wrong tonight, sorry you seem to think I’m revelling in the fact we went out, probably says more about you and your mentality than about me mate

Comment #168Benitez again the man to blame, but not for the equaliser.
Gayle was absolutely atrocious, watched him carefuly. Mitro was a man in form he should have started the match. I sm certain he would have scored.
Again 100000 changes. Extreme rotation does not work. Suppose the weekend drool was a re-shuffle.
Looks like we really are ne er going to win a thing with nights like these. Nothing new for a NUFC fan.
Its time to play with Mitro up front a bit Rafa. Roll on Friday.

Comment #169Oh no, it’s the end of the world. Might as well cut my ST up with us being so crap and the season over with nothing left to play for. We’ve just outplayed a PL club and made a mess of penalties. Yes, we should’ve won but didn’t. Created plenty of chances to but failed to score. Seriously, that’s what football is all about and it’ll happen again before seasons end. Can’t even be arsed to carry on. Later.

Comment #171Surely Lazaar can’t be expected to be on pace when he has barely been given any time?
Yeah, he didn’t look great, but under the same circumstances, a player would have to be out of our league to actually show otherwise.

Don’t take your chances you’re not going to win
when is Sells going to learn not to push the ball back into centre of play
punch/palm the bloody thing wide or out for a corner – NOT to the opposition
Penalties you’re having a laugh – the most shitty sequence of penalties I have seen – but as usual for TOON
I think that is nine penalty shoot outs the TOON have been involved in and won ONE.
Me being the pessimist cannot see us getting anything on Friday night –

Comment #187Getting sick of people blaming Rafa’s rotation. We played very well tonite against a premier league team don’t forget. And people asking for mitro. Need to give theirf in head a shake. He was shocking on saturday. Gayle is a much better striker and in better form than mitro

but surely taking on players and crossing is his A game?
not once did he take anyone on
and add to the fact he walked back twice and left clark to cover 2 posistions is not a good sign for me at all

i see what you did there….
real chuffed with yourself i bet, huh?
to close out my end, it’s just dreadfully annoying seeing nothing but doom and gloom at the first sign of trouble, be it from you are anyone. the pardew years were some of the worst in recent memory and we’ve finally got a manager and the framework of a team to be proud of.
i fear with such negativity waiting in the shallows to crop up, our fans collectively (not everyone of course) will push out the one good thing to happen to this club in over a decade.

I think it is 11 league cup quarters and only 1 won. Not sure on the pens, I think we have been marginally better than that though….
I’d argue Rafa got it wrong again. Possibly even got his tactics/the games the wrong way round. Still, it is a blip. We’d all love to win every game, but despite the blog consensus, Rafa is fallible and admits he is fallible. I thick when he looks back he would agree that one decisions weren’t right, the same as he did after Saturday.
Refreshing to have a manager who admits when he got it wrong.

thats the point….dominating games or even controlling games means nowt if u dont score,we have no ruthlessness about us in front of goal….and will only get harder coz team will start realising if they knuckle down keep it tight, frustrate, the ideas on the pitch will dry up and then have the chance to nick something….need to be punishing teams and were not for the chances created lately.

Murphy can’t contribute at the level we want. He joined because the player we wanted didn’t want to move to a Championship club. He is pure and simple, a bcd up and stop gap.
Not sure on Lazaar. Highly rated and wanted by clubs in a bette position than us. Defensively he is naive, not necessarily poor, but not used to the Prem. Offensively he is disappointing, maybe because the Italian game gave him more time. He will only adjust given minutes though.
Manx,
Yeah, agreed. I’m not Dummet’s biggest fan, I think low Prem high Championship is his level as a starter, but you are right. Dummet would get dogs abuse for tonight. Similarly Mitro would had he performed like Gayle, or Hanley would had he made crucial errors like Lascelles.

If you tried conversing rather than cherry picking who you want to have a dig at because that individual blamed Rafa then we’d make progress mate. My post was no different to LG’s…..anyway what’s done is done, don’t think we’ve ever conversed know here previously so not sure why you feared the doom and gloom scenario.
We didn’t the job that we should have and errors were made both on and off the pitch by Rafa in his selections and the players with the way they performed (lack of performance)
In all reality I expect us to finish top of the table and Hull to finish bottom of the table so 1 position is the difference between the teams, the chances missed was a repeat of last season. Rafa is a class act and won’t have missed that which will hopefully mean he gets a striker and creative player which we will need against teams that sit back next season.
Next time please try to have a sensible discussion with someone if you have a gripe rather than making rash assumptions which have no basis at all. I’ll do the same……Apologies if I offended you mate!! Onwards and upwards, I’m expecting forest to be a much tougher game!!

Manx isn’t having a go at Lazaar. He is pointing out the hypocritical nature of people on here who criticise regardless just because they aren’t popular or fashionable.
If I’m wrong, and Manx is being serious rather than drawing attention to the OTT criticism directed at Dummet, then I apologise for getting involved.

Don’t drag me in!! We were poor, Im sure Rafa will happily take a sizeable portion of the blame. That is what sets him apart in terms of credibility then everyone since Hoots at NUFC.
This isn’t starting a ruck, or arguing, but I’d be interested to know whether those who felt losing to Blackburn was a sacrifice worth making for tonight, still feel that way, even though we lost again with another disappointing performance. (Disappointing Blackburn performance is based on what I’ve read. I did watch tonight though)
