Who Was Newcastle’s Best Player At Hull?

It was another desperately disappointing defeat for Newcastle tonight at Hull after we were beaten 3-1 on penalties.

The game ended 0-0 after 90 minutes and 1-1 after extra time, but we had many opportunities to win this game – and didn’t.

We were given an advantage right at the end of normal time when Dieumerci Mbokani was sent off for head-butting Jamaal Lascelles after 89 minutes.

For this to come after Saturday’s poor performance against 3rd bottom Blackburn when we lost 1-0 to break our 9 game winning streak with a weakened side  makes it particularly hard to take.

    Lilongwe,
Of course Rafa isn’t infalible and I’m not sure anyone thinks he is, I personally have been peed off with a couple of posters constant criticism of him though. The overated Frenchman whose constant references to him as a pathetic fat Spanish waiter has now just shown himself to be an oddball,Munsters immediate criticisim came after an ineffective Sissoko who had been ineffective in the middle, ineffective on the right was played on the left against Leicester, that was after we had played well and were unlucky not to come away with a draw, bearing in mind we were humped 1-3 by Bournemouth the week before. If Rafa hadn’t of come here we’d be witnessing the same scenes as we are at Ewood park. I think he definitely got the two games mixed up regarding perssonel and he knows it, we said it after the Blackburn game. Slating him just to be different is unnecessary and uncalled for.

lilo i can take a bit of nervesnous or a bad game because of that but i can’t take him not bothering to get back and it was definatley not bothering
the same happened with marveux when he did the same for me lol
thats why i said its not a good sign but to then add he didn’t even try to take anyone on which is wat i was looking for tbh it wasn’t a good performance and thats why i also said i hope rafa sorts that out quickly

so hardly an assumption which i took offence to lol

    Charlie,
Didn’t see or listen to any ofSaturday, so can’t comment. I’m really interested to hear where so many people’s thoughts on Murphy have come from, yours included. On the is blog, I have you pegged as one of the more observant and aware fans regarding performances, but I don’t see where you and others are coming up with the idea Murphy is a more mobile version of Mitro and a more physical version of Gayle.

After all, Murphy is the guy who has 1 international goal in 23 caps and a goals to minutes played ratio(despite the lower level he has predominantly played at) that makes Shola look like Pele.

I think it was a very strange decision to play the two teams in that order. I think it’s been done to prove the point that there isn’t a best eleven and that they’re a squad as opposed to a team, unfortunately it has backfired and now we are out and licking our wounds.

the old hair that gets ryt up my arse was there again tonight though, countless ritchie… down right… gets space.. 3 players in the box…does he whip it in with his right foot to give our attackers something to challenge for, something the defenders hate to see coming in coz its hard to defend…..no,checks back, stops looks up,gets closed down passes back to anita or crosses when hull have had time to get players back, really is a pet hate of mine and boils my piss to see any winger checking back to use there stronger foot to cross……when atsu went left he was skinning there right back and whipping balls in and created 2 or 3 chances in 15 mins……which he had’nt on the opposite side when he had to keep checking back…ffs man…….right rant over.

    Jail,
I’ve criticised him in the past and have come in for criticism from yourself and others because of it. I’ll criticise again when I disagree with something.

Of course some criticism goes too far. Some of yours with Ashley did in my opinion, and we clashed over this in the past, and plenty of the criticism of Pardew did. Doesn’t mean that you are wrong to criticise or voice an opinion. People got tshot down over the weekend for saying Rafa got it wrong. Rafa came out before tonights game and said he got it wrong.

I don’t agree we would be witnessing anything similar to Ewood Park. We were set to collapse last time we went down according to many. We didm’t, because the Ashley model needs the Prem. So far very little has changed.

    Springy,
The amount of times I screamed right foot at Ritchie tonight…. Incredibly frustrating, especially when we have seen him capable of putting balls in with his weaker foot already.

Did anyone think we’d win the cup? No, didn’t think so. Moving on.

Incredible the way it works against us. And the people who thought promotion was going to be stroll after Leeds need to get real. If we lose against Forest, Hoots could push us down to 2nd by Saturday night.

    Lil
My observations on Mitro the Toon and crosses
The toon at the minute are pumping cross after cross into the box and there is no one to challenge get on the end of the cross
Gayle to small not strong enough
Mitro for his size does not jump for the ball
Cross after cross going to waste
Murphy in the championship at Ipswich grabbed his fair share of goals from crosses so why not give it a go because at the minute crosses headers is not working

    Charlie,
Murphy has played 259 Championship matches with 77 goals. He has had one good season where he managed 27 in 44 in the Championship.

Crosses aren’t working because we are leaving players isolated. Mitro has 2 or 3 marking him when a balk comes in, generally with Perez off him amusing few problems. Gayle struggles in the air against the physical defenders and Diame hasn’t one it in any capacity so far. Nothing would change with Murphy, he may have a better balance of both players attributes, but his level is way below.

Play the pair together and off each other, then you really make defenders think. They can’t swamp Mitro if Gayle is prowling, and they can’t relax with Mitro like they can with Perez and Diame.

Either way we need at least 1 first choice centre forward if we go up. Gayle drops to 3rd choice, Mitro stays second, Murphy out with either Toney (unlikely) or Arma (not best for his development) as back up.

So many of the crosses were chipped into the box instead of fizzing them across the 6 yard box which is where Gayle might have got some joy against Dawson & Co. Lobbed efforts were never going to do it. Without Perez, we lacked anyone to play a decent one-two to get into the area with a shooting chance. The 3 missed penalties were really pathetic efforts. Shelvey should take a look at his own contribution before mouthing F***Off to his team-mates for yet another off-target 30-yard effort when a decent pass was called for. He improved his passing stats no end with countless passes back and sideways while urging team-mates to do the same. Its a pity we couldn’t wrap it up in the first half. because after that, Hull were the better team. Why are people having a go at Dummy tonight? Hayden gave away 2 reckless frees as well as having a big hand in their equaliser and needs to learn from it. We missed Colback and Dummy tonight as well as Darlow.
