Is This Newcastle’s Team For Crucial Game At The City Ground?

We think Rafa will want to play quite a few of the players he started on Tuesday night at Hull for the game tomorrow night at the City Ground against Nottingham Forest.

In his press conference today for the game, the Newcastle manager admitted he will have to make a few changes – how many he still had to work out.

But we think it will be maybe only three or four changes and he said that it depended on the position as to which players would be able to play a second game in three days.

Newcastle United Training Session

Antonio Gomez Perez, Rafa Benitez and Francisco De Miguel Moreno today
It looks mighty cold!

This is the side we think Rafa could start tomorrow night:

Darlow
Yedlin Lascelles (c) Clark Dummett
Hayden Shelvey
Atsu Diame Gouffran
Gayle

That’s four changes to the side that lost on Tuesday night at Hull.

Darlow, Yedlin, Dummett and Atsu come back in to replace Sels, Anita, Lazaar and Ritchie respectively.

We’re not sure if Jack Colback is fit again from his eye injury.

If he is then Jack would come in for Hayden in central midfield and a surprise could be that Rafa starts Cheick Tiote.

The Ivory Coast International was warming up on the touch-line for a while on Tuesday night in the second half.

What would your team be for the Nottingham Forest game?

Perch might have got away with a fairly soft foul if he’d kept his mouth shut.

Morale to the story don’t diss the ref.

Apparently the Championship is the 5th highest supported league in the world. Wonder if that would still apply without us?

That 50,000 we add to the total has got to make a difference.

It was great to watch us live on Tuesday night (even though we lost) and now we’re live again on SuperSport 7 tomorrow night against Forest. Hopefully we’ll get a better result this time.

    Confirmed Rafa bingo lineup

    Darlow
    Yedlin Mbemba Lascelles Dummett
    Hayden Shelvey
    Ritchie Perez Gouffran
    Mitrovic

Just adding the Anderlecht lads and Perez to change things up from the expected lineup (Clark, Gayle and Diame, normally).

The Anita/Yedlin choice is a toss-up, but I think Rafa might want a bit more attacking from that position which would be Yedlin – Anita’s crossing wasn’t very accurate on Tuesday nor did he get involved cutting inside at all.

Still excited to see how wrong Rafa’s selection makes me. HWTL

There’s be no Rafa Bingo if a certain few malcontents had their way and persuaded Rafa to stick to his obvious “best eleven” every week. But hang on, with the schedule of games we have, how long would that “best eleven” exist? Hmm. Poser, that one.

I’m not usually one who likes the”fickle fans” epithet being bandied about, but I have to say I’m a bit disappointed at the lack of moral fibre of the 180-odd “lose” voters after our recent hiccup at home and a decent if misfiring performance against a team that has been regularly facing off Premier League opponents. Get some nuts, as Mr T ( the A-Team one) would say! 🙂

At least the winbar is improving.

    Jail,
Not a bad pick putting Tiote in your lineup. I have not heard any update on Colback’s eye injury, but added him anyway. Also not sure if Rafa will recall Mitro….seems he was sending the big Serb a message by leaving him off the bench at Hull.

    Current team Anzhi Makhachkala
    Number 99

played in lone striker and number 10 in last 2 matches although subbed after 37 mins tonight (wonder if he was injured) when Anzhi were losing 0-1 and the player who replaced him scored 2 goals in a 3-1 win.

So according to Derek Bell the club got rid of Ormond, but covered up his behaviours. What on earth was the club thinking? I frankly am struggling to understand how or why in any sort of clear conscience they would not report it to the police immediately and cooperate fully. A dreadful stain on the club now, and one that is difficult to fathom.

I’d really like to see Tiote back in the fold. I note that many are concerned at the lack of an understudy for Shelvey, but Colback and Tiote were excellent in the run in last year. We have 5 top notch DM’s at this level, and any combination would on balance win enough of the midfield battles to set us up to claim enough games to take the title I think. No need to buy now. Go up first, and then secure the quality we’ll need for that next challenge.

    Jimmy,
Agree that the things we are hearing about abuse going on at the club in the past are very disturbing. There can be no excuse for any cover-up or keeping silent by others either. Just flat out wrong if true. But the facts will eventually come out, and I hope those in charge now will handle things correctly and fully cooperate with the investigation!

As for players needed in the January window, I think by far what is needed is a true #10. Preferably a premier league caliber player. How about Juan Mata? 🙂

OK, Mata is a complete fantasy! But I don’t think either Ayoze or Diame are fitting into the 10 spot very comfortably.

I’d like to see Perez given the shirt as his to lose for the season. He is capable, and has the potential to play at the higher level. If he can’t grow into the role, we can upgrade at the end of the season, but he like Mitro do have more to show, and being young they need the games to develop further.

    Jinky,

We can’t give that kind of commitment to Perez –
it might not work and cost us promotion.
