9 Man Newcastle Lose 2-1 In Controversial Game

Newcastle lost their third game in six days tonight to cap off a terrible week.

It was a crazy game at the City Ground with some bizarre refereeing with Newcastle going down to 9 men by half time with Jonjo Shelvey and Paul Dummett getting their marching orders after giving away penalties.

And Karl Darlow had saved both penalties.

nicklas-bendtner-scores

Nicklas Bendtner equalizes after 52 minutes

It was in the 33rd minute when Lansbury and Shelvey clashed in the penalty area and it seemed that Jonjo aimed a kick at the Forest player.

The referee’s assistant informed the referee and Shelvey was sent off and Nottingham were awarded a penalty.

That’s Shelvey’s old self showing through unfortunately  – indiscipline – Rafa will hardly be pleased at that although Lansbury was rolling around and made the most of it.

That’s a three match ban for Shelvey – it doesn’t rain but it pours.

Darlow saved the penalty down to his left from Bendtner and then Ciaran Clark seemed to score a perfectly good goal with a header but referee Martin called him up for a foul.

There was not foul to be seen in the TV replays – what’s the referee doing?

And then Matt Ritchie rammed the ball home with his left foot just before the break. .

But then Lansbury (yes him again) went down in the penalty area after a challenge by Paul Dummett and the same thing – he pointed to the spot and sent Dummett off – unbelievable.

It was a challenge Paul didn’t have to make and of course the slightest contact and down went Lansbury.

Another three match ban for Dummett.

Karl Darlow again saved the penalty from Lansbury and saved the follow up shot too and so Newcastle were leading 10 at the break but we had only 9 men.

They had Karl Darlow – surely Newcastle’s new number one to thank for making three great saves in that first half.

The lads then put in a terrific display in the second half but obviously it’s very difficult with just 9 men on the pitch, but they played their hearts out in that second half.

Bendtner equalized after 52 minutes and then near the end we conceded via an own goal from Jamaal Lascelles after 86 minutes and lost 2-1 – that’s pour fifth league loss of the season.

But at the end of the day we have dropped 6 points in two league games and results wise it’s been an awful week for the club.

And it’s worse than that because now Shelvey and Dummett are banned for three games each so this game is a big hit for Newcastle and the refereeing was dubious at best.

A win tomorrow by Brighton at Cardiff City will take them one point above us in the league table.

We have to regroup for our next game – but that’s now 8 days away when we are at home to Birmingham – we cannot lose that one too!

Nottingham Forest: Stojkovic, Cash, Mancienne (Assombalonga, 46), Mills, Perquis, Lichaj, Lam (Carayol, 65), Kasami, Lansbury, Osborn, Bendtner (Vellios, 78). Subs not used: Henderson, Vaughan, Hobbs, Grant.

Newcastle: Darlow; Yedlin, Lascelles, Clark, Dummett; Shelvey, Hayden; Ritchie, Perez (Anita, 46), Gouffran (Diame, 76); Gayle (Mitrovic, 87).
Subs not used: Sels, Mbemba, Tiote, Atsu.

Referee was called Steve Martin. I have found the headline for tomorrow:

    “Beaten by the Dozen”

Steve Martin films included “The Jerk” and ” The Muppet Movie”
    Nottingham Forest should be ashamed.
Linesmen who missed our penalty claims and reacted to the Shelvey incident like a demented judge on Strictly Dancing shouldn’t be allowed to officiate again, just not competent.

    Nottingham famous for Robbing Hood.
Nottingham Forest sponsored by a betting company – curious.

That’s enough s&hite for the season – we need to let rip now.

Shelvey was kicked first by Lansbury prompting the (slight) kick out reaction but will probably not get repealed. Dummets will get repealed as the rules are its a yellow. Ref will check his bank account and be chuffed before realising hes demoted to the conference for the rest of time. Newcastle will still get promoted, Forest will remain in the championship for the umpteenth year

That is the worst refereeing performance I have seen since Trelford Mills ! The linesman wanted his ‘Grandfather Story Time’ and couldn’t wave his little flag fast enough yet it was so obvious he could not see what happened merely reacted to the thespian Lansbury.
Lansbury is nothing but a cheat .
I am sick as a chip and Rafa has it spot on, unless the FA start looking at retrospective charges to playacting they will continue.
    Killed the game.

Rafa has got to pick his best starting eleven plus subs week in week out on merit. The rest have to play for their places .This rotation system is a nonsense. Hate to say it on a night such as this but Cloughie when he won the league & European Cup he played about 90 games in one season picking from about 16/17 players & they were all grafters.

Beefman’s the first to have a pop at Dummet. Any more for any more?

Ffs, I didn’t see or hear the match but how the hell can anyone having a go at the lad? Wasn’t the ref more involved than Dummet?

Can’t the scapegoaters turn their eyes and minds – how about focusing on the positives? And with things seemingly collapsing around him (Cathroe, Shelvely, Dummet) just before the second half of the season, Rafa’s got an uphill climb before him and he needs to hear Newcastle United’s fans rally to the task ahead.

Scapegoaters: Get a grip…… or seek some treatment,

We are going to need to spend on a class playmaker 1st January as regrettably I can see Shelvey banned for a good number of games now. Not looking good with FA Charge also looming after tonight. Those FA guys are hardly likely to blame Lansbury

Agree SITC . he was poor at Villa loads of mistakes but been a great signing. Never rated Hanley though. The lads that were relegated have now got to dig in and show their true metal.Such as Mitro,Perez Colback & Mbemba. After all they have Premiership experience to go with the successes so far this season.
