Alan Shearer Takes A Swipe At That Awful Referee

We just watched the game again when we were shockingly beaten 2-1 at the City Gerund by Nottingham Forest and the referee was simply embarrassing in the many mistakes he made tonight – and most of them were dead against Newcastle.

When you award two dodgy penalties in the first half and send off two Newcastle players for the supposed fouls, you wonder what the referee’s been smoking.

Such was the game tonight.

Alan Shearer has reacted on his Twitter account.

It’s correct to say the Dummett red was wrong according to recently revised rules, an unintentional foul depriving a goalscoring opportunity even as last man is now a caution.

Shelvey and the feigning goon tangled legs and the referee let it go but at the insistence of the line official who guessed at the situation he issues a retrospective red card and penalty – incredible thing to do if you don’t want to be officiating the EvoStik leagues for the next five years.

Top that with our hapless ( disallowed) goalscorer who was penalised for holding yet didn’t get the penalty decision when he was subjected to exactly the same treatment and you have an officiating performance that hovers between incompetent and corrupt.

Yes, we made a few mistakes, but if it remained eleven a side, we would have won 4-0 at a trot. Shocking advert for league football.

Saying something if even Beagrie and Pearce were saying it was shocking refereeing openly on tv.

It’s so bad that I kind of feel sorry for the guy, that it was beyond his skill set – although that doesn’t help us at all.

    Yorky, I think so too.

They barely scraped that second, never mind the first.

Well if Dummett does not get his red card rescinded then its probably going to be Lazaar’s big chance to step up and make the left back slot his own

Would probably benefit him to have Gouffran working hard to let him get forward

laurent if you ain’t good enough then don’t take it
jesus we are talking about a million pound business hinged on 1 decision
they know where they stand and ego floods in
and usually wins and they are lost to the very distant leagues of this world
the good ones win through and make sure they are respectable
this kernt and his linesmane will only be remembered for this game

Last Tuesday this same excuse for a ref refereed the Chester and Ferriby town game . How on earth 3 days later , he’s qualified to take charge of a top of the table game that’s going global on sky when he’s just reffed a small town game ??? It dosnt make sense , he simply wasn’t up to the task however it does make sence now why all the ridiculous decisions were made , again another small village ref wanting to make a name for himself around the world .he certainly has done that alright coz he’ll be all over the papers tomorrow . Which is what he set out to do tonight . Scumbag

This ref Martin has no excuse
He has done 10 championship games so far this season and did us in elfCup
Just speaking to my son and he said he will never call a premier league ref again makes you realise how good the premier league prema donas are ,I think the refs are the biggest difference between the two leagues

Manx, it was shocking and he absolutely got lots of big decisions wrong. It was so bad it was unbelievable.

Just feel a bit sorry for refs at times is all. They should get an awful lot more help.

I’d wanted goal line technology years ago, and more.

Cannot remember a toon team battle and work like that in years when down to 9 men if that had have happened to any of our teams in the last few seasons we would have been looking at shipping 4 or 5 goals!

Forrest’s goals were lucky as well they hardly created any decent chances due to the fact our defence was so well drilled

I hope we get some serious revenge against them in the home game which is quite soon

It was so blatant it was ridiculous.

I don’t think the near body slam on Clark could have gone much worse barring a full Suplex or Tombstone, and there was nothing at all wrong with his headed goal either.

I think everyone is in agreement that regardless of the Bermuda Triangle of a game, under the odd circumstances we still looked like how we should perform.

They were making a dogs dinner out of the match even playing against 9 men. We showed the domination of 11 against 11. Unparalleled. If anything, 10 men evened it up, and even against 9 we didn’t do too badly at all.

Bit worried how Shelvey’s void will be filled, although that could benefit us because we should have fallback for his role anyway. It may speed things up a bit in that area.

help,….can some one explain to me why he gave the first pen .Ive been arguing with my big bro . i said it shouldnt have been a pen because the ball was in play in the middle of the park. the ref only stopped it when the linesman waved for an incident with shelvie and the guy he kicked .so how can he stop play and award the pen when there was no foul . The ref had played on and the linesman flagged only when shelvie lashed out . Would the correct decision have been to stop play , consult with the linesman why he flagged , sent shelvie off and then resumed play , SOO where did the pen come from ?? thats the way i saw it anyway , but who committed the foul for the pen?? its been an awful long night , explain only if you can be bothered or even if you care anymore

Stuart, when he consulted with the ref for the sending off, I didn’t even think about the penalty, for the reason you mentioned. Once it sunk in I just thought Oh no.

aye laurent but it seems people wan’t shelvey to act like the pussy that is lansbury instead of the totally normal reaction!
i hope but don’t hold out for much!, that he gets done for conning officials which he has done and also brings the game into disrepute

mourinhio gets a touchline ban for kicking a bottle
but he will get away with the most telivised blatant cheating ever seen!!
    a disgrace!

i dont think people want him to be a pussy…as a pro footballer,u cant have a normal reactions, if that reaction gets you sent off, contributes to your team losing, makes you possibly miss games…he’s paid a lot of money to control those reactions and use his football ability to help win the game, yes it was a cowardly challenge on him firstly and understand the reaction, but i’d rather him not lashed out stayed on the pitch, help win the game and said afterwards…im glad we won coz there was a lot diving out there tonight.

Ive just watched the Shelvey incident and although he shouldn’t have reacted, Jeezus, I think he needs cutting a bit of slack, he was just about kicked to the ground. If you can get done for punching someone during a game after its finished then surely play acting like that has to be punished.

I think the time has come to pair Mitro and Gayle together.

Without a playmaker or a no10 that can have an impact on the game, then playing with 1 small guy up front on his own is working against us. Play the formation that best suits the players available – Mitro and Gayle together with Gayle dropping onto the other teams holding CM when we dont have the ball.

Perez is anonymous too much, I think he actually has more chance in the PL as the teams will attack us more and so there will be more space. In the Champ though, the opposition sit their CMs on top of their CBs and there is no space and Perez doesnt get involved.

Ritchie and Yedlin down the right is out best line of attack but all those crossing opportunities are wated without our best headerer(?) of the ball playing.

The Dummett/Gouffran combo limits us as well as we get nothing from it attacking wise – need either Lazaar to do the same as Yedlin does or Atsu there to be able to attack both wings – again without Mitro or a top no10 then we will again be limiting ourselves.

Not sure who will play CM now, maybe Diame drops there with Hayden. Again there will be less creativity so we need to go more direct with the players available. Plus every team we play will sit back and try to limit the space for Gayle.

    Would go with

    Darlow
    Yedlin-Lascelles-Clark-Lazaar
    Ritchie-Hayden-Diame -Atsu/Gouffran
    Gayle-Mitro

    Watched the replay
Still in a daze and its 4 pm in Aus
    LCBP
Was having identical except thoughts at the final whistle .
December 30 th st James will a bear pit .
Hope landsbury is playing .they will be torn to shreds after this .
And yes watching darlow just made me even more angry that we are not looking at a cup semi with Man U .
To me both red cards should be rescinded and landsbury charged with unsporting behaviour and being a complete bellend to boot .
Still so proud of this team after 120 mins on Tuesday they showed the kind of guts sissoko can only watch in movies

What annoys me is that if (when) red cards are rescinded, then the result still stands, we played half the game with 9 against 12, say one red card gets removed, then we would have had 10 v 12, but the result still stands.
That ref was/is corrupt, I wonder how much money he got from the far east betting syndicates.
If that happened in any “normal” job, he’d have been sacked and had legal actions taken against him.
As usual the prima donnas of the fa/government/judiciary think they know better than the majority.
I can’t wait for the revolt to happen.

The real villain was shelvey ,had he show restraint and let’s face it on 50k a week its the least we should expect , we would have won the game plain and simply.
He is a liability we can argue about play acting ,bad ref but shelvey gave the officials a decision to make,is it any wonder that every club he goes to gets rid .
He can’t help himself I am afraid I have had enough of travelling the length and breath of the country to watch him behave like a child
