David Prutton played for Nottingham Forest back in 1998-2003 and he is now a pundit for Sky Sports for the Football League.
David thinks that Newcastle will not have it all their own way at the City Ground tonight and he is predicting an odd result – a high scoring draw.
It’s odd because we have only had one draw in our 22 total games this season – the 1-1 draw back in September at Villa Park when the home side equalized in the last minute.
David Prutton – Sky Sports pundit
This is what David has said about the game tonight:
“You look at what an emphatic victory they had against Barnsley, and Newcastle’s very surprising loss against Blackburn with a much-changed team.”
“Dwight Gayle should come back into the picture, as should Jamaal Lascelles who has been superb this season and will get to play at his former team and show them where he is at the moment.”
“But they’re up against a Forest team who look resurgent and a lot more focused to be honest. I think this is going to be a draw, but a high-scoring affair.”
“Maybe the game against Blackburn goes to show we can’t all get carried away with Newcastle, and that they may not go on and romp this league. It may be a reality check.”
“But Newcastle don’t strike me as a club who would allow negativity to breed, and Rafa Benitez himself I’m sure is the type of boss who will put things into perspective.”
Newcastle have scored 36 goals in the Championship and are top scorers with Nottingham Forest next in line with 32 goals, but we have also only conceded 14 goals in 18 league games.
That’s the third best in the Championship to Brighton (11) and Derby (13).
Nottingham have the second worst defense in the league with 32 goals conceded and only bottom club Rotherham have let in more goals – 43.
We are usually decent in defense, but Forest are on form, so our defense will have to be on their toes tonight.
The fact that we’ve lost our two games this week has dented the confidence of fans and only one in two fans think we can win this game.
We need a win tonight.

Comment #4This should be an interesting game we seem to do much better against teams who let us play football and who will look to outplay us and attack!
We end up totally dominating them and its only our finishing against Villa and Hull which has prevented us winning every game against these type of teams
Richie looks knackered at the moment and Shelvey probably needs rotated as well but I imagine both will play tonight at some point

Comment #6The teams tracking us in the 2009/10 season were WBA and Forest.
Right up to the end of November – beginning of December we were never more than 2 points ahead and sometimes fell back to join the pack.
By mid December we started to pull away until by the final day we were 11 points clear of WBA.
That season we were knocked out of the 3rd round of the League cup by Peterborough in the September .
Weirdly we were knocked out in the 4th round of the FA cup January 23 by WBA five days after meeting them in the league.

Comment #10Pardew will win his next game. The guy is a Houdini. I think the games up for most the older British managers. Moyes is doing every bit as bad as I expected. The reason is that there are two or three times as many good foreign coaches in PL now compared to when he did well at Everton. The quality of managers has rose enormously and Pards etc just can’t compete.

Comment #11I’m surprised there have been no stories of abuse of young footy aspirants in other countries yet.
Surely it cannot be exclusive to England and Wales !

I have a funny feeling to that Tiote will start tonight – with Colback missing we need a bit of bite in midfield which we sadly lacked last Saturday. Be tough tonight after tuesdays’ extra time – I’ll take a draw now.

Comment #18Probably be a scoreless draw in that case.
I’m going for Rafa (all hail him) to really surprise us.
Rafa (all hail him) Bingo
Darlow
Yedlin Lascelles Clarke Dummett
Anita Shelvey
Atzu Diame Gouffron
Murphy
I reckon Anita could do the ginger Makalele’s job and the few minutes that Murphy got against Hull he did add a bit of punch up front. Even if he doesn’t start I think he”ll come on at some point.

Comment #19A win tonight will dampen the morale of the chasing pack conversely a loss will be a pick up for them.
A draw wouldn’t be a bad result although I expect us to win.

It was more of whos had games over last few days, and could possibly play again,is just guess work but trying to balance who….atsu was better on the left when he came on…so i expect him to start….goofy and clark are probs due a game out….since yedlin cane on as sub i think he may start…same with perez over diame who looked knackered, and mitro for gayle….could be murphy if rafa and mitro are not seeing eye to eye for some reason like.
