Just like Rafa Benitez seemed to be able to get the best out of Moussa Sissoko last season – and Moussa has always been a challenge – he also seems to have solved the problem of the inconsistency of Jonjo Shelvey.
Jonjo, after a poor first few games of the season has come through big time for us and often looks majestic in the middle of the field spraying those passes all over the place – like he did in the first half at Hull on Tuesday night.
Inconsistency and a questionable attitude at times have dogged the 24 year-old during his career, but we see no sign of that over the last few months.
Jonjo Shelvey – played great for us this season
The England International (6 caps) had been outstanding for us and all credit goes to him for that.
This is what Rafa said about Shelvey yesterday during his interviews:
“He has been really important for us.” “He’s played a lot of games and is doing well.”
“So hopefully everything will be fine and he can continue playing and scoring goals.”
“At the moment we are very happy with him.”
“He has a very good relationship with all of his team-mates, so I don’t see any problem and don’t expect any problem.”
Shelvey has made 20 appearances for Newcastle this season and has scored 3 goals.
In total he has 35 appearances for Newcastle this year with 3 goals since signing for us from Swansea for £12M in January.
Jonjo was also adamant that he was staying with Newcastle after we were relegated and that was good.
His hearing for his FA misconduct charge will now be held during the week of Monday, December 19th and if he is found guilty he will serve at least a five game suspension, so we could miss him for those games.
But Rafa will have worked out how he will handle Jonjo’s absence since it’s been quite a while now that Jonjo has been charged.
Maybe Isaac Hayden will be given the attacking role in place of Jonjo?
