Newcastle Fans React On Twitter To Sad Defeat

In the first half of the game at the City Ground yesterday referee Stephen Martin gave Nottingham Forest two penalties and sent off the two offending players – Jonjo Shelvey and Paul Dummett.

Karl Darlow brilliantly saved both penalties.

And the referee also disallowed a perfectly good headed goal by Ciaran Clark in the first half.

What is going on with these referees when they get a Newcastle game – is it just too much for them?

After being 1-0 up at half time with a goal from Matt Ritchie, Forest got two goals in the second half to win the game against our nine men.

The ref was awful but the prime responsibility for getting the first one wrong was the lineman’s. He couldn’t have seen the kick, they were both on the ground and Shelvey was on the far side of Lansbury. He only waved his flag when Lansbury had already rolled over, there was a definite delay. He just bought the acting.
But Shelvey remains a liability and I suspect another playmaker is top of Rafa’s priorities for the window.
