Issac Hayden has been interviewed in the local papers this morning and he has talked about just how good Rafa Benitez is and how the players now have a winning mentality.
That’s a lot different than under Steve McClaren last season, when the players had a decidedly losing mentally and could lose any game quite easily – and often did!
To be fair to Steve, he has made a good start on his return to Derby County winning the last five games, but the truth is he was simply hopeless as the Newcastle manager and it just seemed to be too much for him.

The young lad was an award winner – well done!
Hayden has turned out to be a bargain buy for Newcastle for just £2.5M from Arsenal in the summer and Rafa went down to north London to speak with him for a couple of hours and after that meeting Hayden was very keen to join Newcastle and did.
This is what Hayden has said today about manager Rafa Benitez as reported in the Shields Gazette:
“I think this season the manager has brought in a lot of new players and the manager is fairly new himself.”
“He has brought a lot of new ideas in. Everybody here is really hungry to win. Everybody has a winning mentality.”
“It doesn’t matter whether it’s a cup game, league game, friendly game or training game – there are a lot of players in that dressing room that just want to win.”
“We just want to progress.”
“I’ve improved tactically. His experience and his tactical knowledge is massive.”
“I have never really had that in a manager so far. Individually, talking to me and helping me is something I have never had.”
“So tactically and positionally I am far better than when I first came. The main thing the manager has instilled in us is belief.”
“We believe as a squad we are good enough.”
Isaac looks an excellent young player in the making who has lots of technical skill and he has picked up caps for the England U21 side since joining Newcastle.
We have to admit that Isaac is one of our favorite players at the club because not only is he a very good player but he’s a smashing lad too and seems to epitomize the new Newcastle United under Rafa Benitez.
