Report Newcastle After 23 Year-Old International Winger

There have been multiple reports – most of them emanating from Portugal – that Newcastle have been at Porto games this season and the general consensus has been that Newcastle were looking at 26 year-old Mexican International Hector Herrera.

The logic was that Rafa Benitez was very keen on the player when he managed Napoli from 2013-2015 and the lad is a box-to-box midfielder and something that Newcastle are short of in our current team.

And when Newcastle scouts go to watch a particular side regularly, there’s always conjecture as to which player they are really interested in – and maybe it’s even a couple of players.

Jesus Corona – 23 year-old Mexican winger

Web-site HITC, who seem to concentrate on the transfer market, are reporting today that maybe it isn’t Herrera after all Newcastle are watching, but 23 year-old fellow Mexican International Jesus Corona, who joined Porto last year after playing three seasons at FC Twente.

The winger has played 57 times for Porto with 23 goals since then and is a skilful goalscoring winger – a player who always attracts Newcastle’s scouts.

Jesus stands 5ft 8ins tall and possesses great speed and technical ability and while at FC Twente in Holland he played 51 games with 13 goals.

He started his career at Monterrey before joining FC Twente in 2013.

He made his debut for the Mexico national team in November 2014 in a friendly against the Netherlands and since then he has picked up 26 caps with 6 goals.

It seems certain that Rafa will sign a skillful goalscoring winger with speed before next season starts – and that could well be Christian Atsu, depending on how well he plays while on loan for us this season.

But it also could be that Jesus Corona is also a target of Newcastle.

Two players named Jesus in the squad – surely we cannot go wrong.

One thing is certain – Rafa will be wanting to bring in some real class in January and in the summer, so if we are back in the Premier League next season – which is the plan – our team will be much improved from this season.

And we haven’t done too badly this season either.

What do you think?

At the game Porto v Leicester there were over twenty European clubs asked for accreditation.
Among them Sunderland Middlesbrough and Newcastle !

I should have added that Porto have big financial problems so there could be a bit of a fire sale.

Adam Armstong’s loan to Barnsley is due to terminate next month – will it be extended or will he be recalled ?
