Newcastle Field Very Strong Side Against Birmingham

Rafa Benitez has just announced his starting eleven for the tough home game against Birmingham City today and it’s the side we thought he would put out – a very strong side with experience.

Both Paul Dummett and Jonjo Shelvey start after their red cards were quickly rescinded earlier this week by the FA and Vurnon Anita comes in for DeAndre Yedlin at right back.

It’s the strongest side Rafa can filed at the moment – so that’s good.

This is what Rafa has said about the situation we are in at the moment and the opponents today:

“The way that the Nottingham result went, and with the red cards rescinded, the fans, staff and players have to stick together.” “We have to help each other.”

“Sometimes the players will create the atmosphere and in most cases it has to be like this, but sometimes they will need help from the fans.”

“If we realise that is the situation we will have more chances to win more games, especially at home.”

“We have a lot of respect for Birmingham, they are doing well.”

“It would always be difficult against them but they have confidence and they come here with the feeling that they are playing against one of the top sides.”

“They will always give more than you are expecting.” “They are a team that are similar to Blackburn and they have similar experiences.”

“So you have to start well with intensity and the style of play we have built here.” “It will be difficult because they will press and be aggressive.”

“We have to be sure we don’t make the same mistakes we did.” “If we have some chances we have to take them because it can change the game.”

“The game against Blackburn we had three chances at the start of the second half and the game could have been different.”

“We have to be sure if we get chances we must take them.”

Our fans seem confident we can get the win this afternoon.

Good team, of that bench the only one I’d have expected to start would have been Yedlin. I’d have picked Anita but I thought that Yedlin was currently flavour of the month.

    9-11 for me.

    HWTL HWTF HWTR(ahh) HWTBRS.

Presumably it’ll be on the radio, don’t suppose NUFC will be showing it themselves

If there is a good periscope link can someone post it,.

Really dont see why we dont go with Mitro and Gayle together.

Birmingham, like 95% of the teams we will play this season, will defend deep, their CMs sat in front of the CBs, and we will have the majority of possession and why have Ritchie crossing without out best headerer of the ball.

Would prefer Yedlin in there somewhere, maybe in front of Anita or for me in place of.

Dummett and Gouffran together at home is unnecessary, we will be limited down the left with little creativity so everything will come through Ritchie again.

For me, at least playing at home, we should have a threat down both sides and 2 up top, especially as the players playing as the 10 havent set the world alight.

Atsu and Ritchie wide, Mitro and Gayle up top.

    Anyway lets see what happens.

Anybody in any doubt who Jack Root is.
    WW…,
Aye, if the brown nosing of Belfast wasn’t a give away or the constant attacks on people on his list wasn’t a give away you get this.

I feel the best comparison of Rafa’s role would be with Arsene Wenger. At the start of his reign he undertook a root and branch review of the whole football club.

    7Jack Root // Jun 28, 2016 at 4:33 PM
    England’s failure followed by “root-and branch-reform

    11Ian Toon // May 22, 2016 at 8:53 AM
This will enable Rafa to undertake the root and branch work to turn us into a modern progressive football club.

Any doubt as to who is who.

Too defensive for a home game.

Then again, having picked Yedlin over Anita on the right
and not picked Gouff on the left, for my Rafa bingo,
    I would say that, wouldn’t I ? !

But why with Dummett and Gouffran together? At home, vs Birmingham?

They are the combination you play away from home to keep it tight in the first half but at home, with 60+% possession surely it is worth attacking more and having either Atsu or Lazaar on.

Obviously Rafa knows best, just wish in these games he would be more attacking.

I’d assume it’s because we’ve lost 3 in a row and Rafa wants to make sure we have the best defensive unit on the field so it doesn’t become 4

I don’t disagree though to me this is too defensive and Yedlin should of started but I don’t see a point where Rafa is going to start a game with two up top mate it’s just not how he plays

Regardless though that team should win and that’s what we want

In my seat and raring to go. 🙂 Good turnout from the Brummie fans, took their full allocation. Nothing to do with a weekend on the Toon of course! 🙂 We must be the first fixture visiting fans look for I reckon. And who can blame them? Only left my wallet at home with my money and ST’s in ffs. After reminding my son to make sure he had everything he needed. 🙂 Nay bother getting in though so not a disaster.

You are very presumptive. I posted a comment endorsing Essex Geordie Bill’s remark regarding two full-backs from the fifties.
Turning back to your post of ‘my all time team’, I missed your qualifying statement; ‘restricted to players I saw in the flesh’ maybe it went missing with the statement; ‘do not dare reply to my precious post’.

    You should get out more…

Springy, I know, terrible innit? 🙂 You normally have to go to the box office but the guys on the gate know me so nay bother. Usual situation for those not able to get here often – ground looks empty until just before ko, but last dregs are supped and then they pour in. Goes from empty to full in the blink of an eye. 🙂 Anyway chaps, enjoy the game wherever you are and big smiles afterwards. Come on Newcastle!!! How many got Anita wrong? Yup, me too. 🙂
