Benitez Praises Forward – Rates The Newcastle Performance

Dwight Gayle set a target of 20 goals for himself this season, but after scoring a great hat-trick against 5th placed Birmingham yesterday in the 4-0 win, he may need to make a new target very soon.

There were some grumbles when the former Crystal Palace and Peterborough striker got the iconic number 9  shirt, but we don’t hear too many grumbles about Dwight these days.

He’s proving himself  to be a consummate goalscorer and seems to be inspired by both the number 9 shirt and the passionate Newcastle fans.

Dwight now has 16 Championship goals in 16 total appearances in the league this season – not too bad at all.

This is what Rafa has said about the striker we paid (only) £10M for in the summer from Crystal Palace:

“I knew that he would score goals, I didn’t know how many.” “Now I can see he will score a lot, but I don’t want to say a figure.”

“Hopefully he can score goals in every game.” “He is a great finisher, he has good movement and he can make the difference.”

“If the team is playing well he will score goals, and so will the other strikers.”

“If we play as well as we did against Birmingham and they are in and around the box, they will score goals.”

“We started really well in the game and we were really focused.” “We needed that after the Blackburn game and we could not allow the other team to play.”

“We had to start well, we played good football and created chances.” “We scored two goals and then we had to do the same in the second half.”

“They started well and were pushing, but once we scored the third goal there were a lot of chances for us again.”

“I was pleased with the hat-trick of Dwight Gayle but also the contribution of Mo Diame and the rest of the team.”

“There were a lot of players realised how important it was to play well today and win, and we did it.”

Mo Diame, Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden were also impressive in yesterday’s game – our biggest home league win of the season.

The 4-0 win puts us back at the top of the Championship.

West Ham are most welcome to come in for him. Gives Benitez greater leverage to get the backing he wants from Ashley. And despite this side doing well, the correct backing will be fundamental to our progress.

i would actually love west ham to get relegated instead of the scum
london team with tax payers stadium full of themselves with horrible owners!
would be funny as fusk plus rafa’s team would smash the scum and get our own 6+ in a row
