Dwight Gayle On What Makes Him Tick At Newcastle

The player of the season so far for Newcastle has to be Dwight Gayle, who signed for us from Crystal Palace in the summer for £10M and has scored 16 Championship goals for us in just 16 appearances.

When Alan Pardew signed on at Palace almost two years ago it was obvious he didn’t rate Dwight, because he hardly ever started him, so we have to thank the former Newcastle manager for selling him to us for £10M.

And then Alan went after Christian Benteke from Liverpool for a massive £30M.

Dwight Gayle after scoring on Saturday

Dwight Gayle has revealed to the local press just exactly what makes him tick at Newcastle and it should not be too surprising what his reason is.

This is what he said as reported in the Shields Gazette:

“The fans are fantastic.” “Coming out here to 52,000 every week is lovely. The boys thrive on it, and myself also.”

“Most of my goals have come here, and it’s a fantastic feeling to be coming out and playing in front of them.”

“It was exactly what we needed.” “We’ve got the confidence back, and hopefully we can go to Wigan and it’ll give us the belief that we need.”

“We’ve got two games before Christmas, and we know it’s going to be difficult.”

“We’ve seen over the last week that teams can beat you. When things go against you, you just need to keep your focus and work towards the win.”

“We’ll try to get the three points we need.”

Newcastle now play at Wigan on Wednesday night and then at Burton Albion on Saturday – the last game before Christmas.

These are against team lower down in the division but we have found out this season they can be just as difficult as higher placed teams.

We must get two more wins before Christmas.
