These Were Newcastle’s Four Best Players Against Birmingham

It really was a terrific all around performance by a very good-looking Newcastle side on Saturday in the 4-0 win against Birmingham.

Make no mistake, this was a very important game for us and when it really mattered the lads came through with a great team performance.

It was so good that after the game Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett admitted Newcastle were better in every facet of the game and gave them a lesson in football.

It’s not often you hear a manager be so honest after a game in which Newcastle were indeed so much the better side.

Dwight Gayle – hat-trick hero

The top man of course was Dwight Gayle with a great hat-trick and he’s now got 16 Championship goals in 16 appearance for us this season – a phenomenal return so far.

This lad could well be Player of the Season and get the most goals since Alan Shearer was playing for us.

Second in the voting was Mo Diame who put in his best performance for Newcastle so far and played well throughout.

Mo Diame on Saturday

It’s good to see the former Hull City player show the form we all know he is capable of.

Jonjo Shelvey

Next in the voting is Jonjo Shelvey who produced another good solid performance in the middle of the park after being sent off in his last game at Nottingham Forest, but having his red card overturned on appeal.

And Isaac Hayden deserves a special mention in 4th place, because he had an excellent game and probably his best performance to date in a Newcastle shirt.

This lad is only 21 years old and looks like a stellar buy from Arsenal and he is improving all the time as he gets more and more games for Newcastle.

This lad could become a top player in England in a year or two under Rafa’s guidance.

A great win on Saturday and now the lads have to do the same thing again at Wigan on Wednesday night – there can be no let up.

As well as we played I still think we were made to look good by Birmingham who were actually pants. In the first half they couldn’t string a 2 passes together and I wish we could play against their number 9 every week – he was dire!
