Benitez Talks To Press About Wigan, Elliot And Gayle

Rafa Benitez has just given his press conference for the game at Wigan Athletic tomorrow night and he followed center-back Ciaran Clark in front of the press –  who was first up to answer questions.

Ciaran has been in terrific form for Newcastle this season and he seems a steal at just £5M from Aston Villa – we’ll bring you Ciaran’s comments once they come through.

Rafa Benitez – just completed his press conference

Here are some of the initial comments Rafa made about the game tomorrow night at the DW Stadium coming through from the Newcastle Twitter account and Chronicle Live:

“I want to be top in May. We don’t win any titles at Christmas – I’d prefer to be top as it means we’re doing things right.”

“We try to win at home and away. They’re at the bottom and need to win – they’ll attack so hopefully we can find space.”

“We knew we were doing well and didn’t deserve to lose those games, but there was a little relief to beat Birmingham.”  “I’m pleased with the reaction of the team.”

“My main concern is to stay focused and not make mistakes – if we do that, we’ll score goals and win games.”

“Rob Elliot did well for the U23s last night. He made some good saves – I was really pleased for him.”

“He will be pushing. Darlow is doing well and Matz is pushing, so hopefully we will keep this competition for a long time.”

“If Dwight can continue to score goals in every game I will be happy with that.”

A big majority of Newcastle fans think we can win this game tomorrow night – let’s hope they are right.

It’ll be nice if Reading and Brighton can be held tonight – away respectively to Leeds and Blackburn.

    On the Gayle song:

Always look on the Dwight side of life (whistles)

dunno if its been mentioned already. Easy as pie.

I’d imagine it’s easier to start songs at away games as well. So maybe one will emerge tmorrow evening ?

I think everyone wants to sing his name but no one knows what to sing! Maybe the ear cupping is just to encourage us to come up with something!

    And on lascelles:

After ripping levy’s arms and legs off over the Sissoko deal. Just imagine the price Rafa would get when a club is actively pursuing one of our players.

Like to think Lascelles would stay, though. Rafa has given him a huge opportunity to captain the club and he should be with us for the next few years imo ?
