Rob Elliot returned for his first game since picking up that serious ACL knee injury in late March playing for the Republic of Ireland side last night and he lasted the whole game in the 4-2 win over Aston Villa U23 side at St. James’ Park.
Rob conceded in the first minute without even touching the ball and then he conceded an own goal from Lubo Satka in stoppage time as Newcastle side ran out 4-2 winners with goals from Curtis Good, Stuart Findlay, Tom Heardman and Liam Smith
Rob Elliot – back playing again
Just before the end and before Satka’s own goal, Rob made his best save of the evening when he saved from Jerell Sellars after the substitute was through on goal.
The Player of the Season last year should soon be on the bench and pushing Karl Darlow for the first team jersey at Newcastle and that has to be good for the team with Karl determined to keep his position as the Newcastle number one.
Newly signed Matz Sels could soon find himself the number three goalkeeper on Tyneside.
Rob was happy with his return as took to his Twitter account after the game.
Great to make my come back from injury tonight. Great performance from the u23s. Fantastic to be out on st James again!! On to the next

The Chronicle is reporting you could hear Rob continually talking and shouting at the players during the game as he made his experience count and of course Rob is such a positive influence on any team both on the field and in the dressing room.
It’s good to have him back.
